Whirling Chaos

Shota Aizawa carries Kota Izumi clear, reading Izuku Midoriya's steadiness as adrenaline masking the damage his Quirk has done to him. Kota cries that he never got to apologize, and Aizawa tells him the boy will pull through and to thank him when he next sees him.

The fights outside the treeline grind on. Izuku tells Mandalay that capturing Katsuki Bakugo is one of the villains' objectives and asks her to spread it. As he sprints off, Magne works out that this is the student who put Muscular down and that he knows their aim, and she moves to stop him, only for Spinner to block her and let him go. She is furious, but Spinner answers that Stain judged Izuku worthy of the title, and that judgment is one he honors. Mandalay takes the opening his lowered guard leaves and boots him in the face. As Izuku disappears into the trees, her Quirk carries the warning to everyone that Katsuki has to stay out of the fighting.

Shoto Todoroki holds Moonfish off with ice against his swelling teeth. The villain is better than expected, cracking through the walls and nearly skewering Katsuki before another sheet of ice intercepts. Shoto warns him off using Explosion at all, since igniting the poison gas would make everything worse, which does nothing for Katsuki's mood. Moonfish keeps breaking the ice and steering himself around on his own teeth, and Shoto concludes that running means running into the gas. They are stuck.

Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu and Itsuka Kendo push through the smoke, and Itsuka notices the gas is not thinning out, which means somebody is holding it there. They go looking. Mustard feels them coming, gives them credit for reading the phenomenon, and draws a gun to meet them. Tetsutetsu bursts into view with a steel fist cocked, and the villain shoots.

Deeper in, Izuku is still hunting for Katsuki when an enormous shadow claw comes at him. He moves to defend, but the adrenaline drains away and the pain arrives and locks him in place. Mezo Shoji reaches him first and carries him off, taking one look at his injuries and putting him on his back. He explains that Moonfish ambushed him and Fumikage Tokoyami, that shielding Fumikage cost him one of his tentacles, and that the ambush broke the grip Fumikage had been fighting to keep on Dark Shadow. The Quirk has grown huge and vicious in the dark, and it has its own user pinned while it takes his body over. Fumikage begs the two of them to run before it kills them, and Izuku can only stare.

Aizawa gets Kota to safety after the fight with Muscular.

Izuku passes on that Katsuki is a target, and Mandalay broadcasts the warning to both classes.

Spinner protects Izuku from Magne out of respect for Stain's judgment, and takes a kick from Mandalay for the lapse.

Tetsutetsu and Itsuka track the gas to Mustard and the fight begins.

Mezo saves Izuku and reveals that Fumikage has lost control of Dark Shadow, which has him restrained.

Izuku and Mandalay appear on the cover. Episode 43 adapts the chapter.

Tetsutetsu and Itsuka's fight against Mustard starts here, while the students' battle with Moonfish and the Tiger and Mandalay engagement both continue.
