Role in the Story

Cell Max was engineered by Dr. Hedo as an upgraded successor to the original Cell. Unlike his predecessor, Cell Max was activated prematurely by Magenta before Hedo could install the programming needed for higher intelligence and self-control. As a result, Cell Max is a towering, mindless engine of destruction that attacks everything in sight, including his own allies.

Standing far larger than any previous Android creation, Cell Max rampages across the Red Ribbon Army's base, forcing Gohan, Piccolo, and the other Z Fighters to mount a desperate counterattack. Despite his overwhelming raw power, his lack of strategic thinking leaves him vulnerable to coordinated teamwork. The heroes discover that his weak point is a fragile area on the top of his head. After Gohan awakens his Beast form, he channels a massive Special Beam Cannon through Cell Max's weak spot, shattering the giant Bio-Android from the inside out.

Cell Max's creation highlights the recurring danger of the Red Ribbon Army's ambition to build ever more powerful artificial warriors, a cycle that stretches all the way back to Dr. Gero's original experiments.
