Story and Significance
Icarus is a young dragon who forms a close bond with Gohan during the events surrounding the Tree of Might incident. Unlike the fearsome dragons of legend, Icarus is gentle, small, and deeply loyal to Gohan, following him on several adventures.
He appears across multiple films, including the Tree of Might, Lord Slug, and Cooler's Revenge stories. In each of these, he serves as Gohan's companion and occasionally helps in small ways during dangerous situations. He also appears in anime filler during the period between the Namek and Cell sagas.
In the Japanese version, his name is Hire Dragon, a playful reference. The English dub renamed him Icarus, after the figure from Greek mythology. He is one of the few non-humanoid characters to have a recurring presence as a companion rather than a fighter.
