Innocent Buu, commonly known as Majin Buu or Fat Buu, is the first form of the ancient magical creature Majin Buu seen in the series. Created millions of years ago, he is the result of Kid Buu absorbing the Grand Supreme Kai, whose gentle nature softened Buu's destructive impulses. He serves as the main antagonist of the Majin Buu Saga before his friendship with Mr. Satan leads to a dramatic change of heart.
Innocent Buu emerges from his sealed cocoon after the wizard Babidi gathers enough energy from Earth's fighters during the World Martial Arts Tournament. Babidi expects a loyal, obedient weapon of destruction, but instead gets a childlike creature more interested in candy and games than conquering the universe. Buu's behavior is erratic and unpredictable; he can level entire cities one moment and then happily share sweets with a stranger the next.
His power is immediately established as terrifying. Supreme Kai, who had witnessed Buu's rampage millions of years earlier, is paralyzed with fear at his return. Gohan, powered up by the Elder Kai, is initially considered the only hope of stopping him. Goku demonstrates Super Saiyan 3 against Buu but admits he cannot defeat him in that form, buying time instead for Goten and Trunks to learn the Fusion technique.
Buu's relationship with Babidi deteriorates quickly. The wizard's constant nagging and threats annoy Buu to the point where he kills Babidi outright, freeing himself from any semblance of control. Left to his own devices, Buu wanders the Earth causing destruction for entertainment, turning people into candy and demolishing cities on a whim.
The turning point in Innocent Buu's story comes when Mr. Satan approaches him with the intention of defeating the creature to protect his reputation as the world champion. Instead of fighting, Satan befriends Buu through gifts of food, games, and genuine companionship. He teaches Buu that killing is wrong and introduces him to the puppy Bee, who becomes Buu's beloved pet.
For a brief time, Buu genuinely reforms. He stops killing, heals a blind boy, and lives peacefully alongside Satan and Bee. This period reveals that the Grand Supreme Kai's influence runs deep within Buu, giving him the capacity for kindness and empathy that his pure form (Kid Buu) entirely lacks. The friendship between the world's greatest fraud and the universe's most dangerous being is one of the saga's most unexpected and touching storylines.
This peace shatters when two criminals shoot Bee and Mr. Satan. The rage Buu experiences causes a critical internal conflict. The evil within him manifests as a separate entity, Evil Buu, who represents the pure malice that the Grand Supreme Kai's absorption had suppressed. Evil Buu absorbs Innocent Buu by turning him into chocolate and eating him, creating the far more dangerous Super Buu. The gentle side of Buu survives only as Good Buu after being expelled later in the saga.
Innocent Buu possesses one of the most versatile power sets in Dragon Ball. His rubbery, malleable body can absorb virtually any physical attack without lasting damage. He regenerates from even the most devastating injuries, regrowing severed limbs and reconstituting himself from scattered particles. His signature ability is the Transfiguration Beam, which can turn any living creature or object into food, typically candy or chocolate, which he then eats to absorb their power.
Beyond his offensive capabilities, Buu demonstrates powerful healing magic. He can restore lost sight, mend broken bones, and cure injuries that would be fatal to anyone else. This healing power comes directly from the Grand Supreme Kai's benevolent nature and sets Innocent Buu apart from his other incarnations, none of whom display this ability.
After the defeat of Kid Buu, the Good Buu fragment of Innocent Buu survives and continues to live with Mr. Satan. In Dragon Ball Super, Good Buu remains a member of the extended group, participating in events like the Tournament of Power selection process (though he falls asleep and misses the actual tournament). He is eventually revealed to still contain the dormant spirit of the Grand Supreme Kai, a plot point that becomes significant during the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga. His legacy is that of a monster redeemed by friendship, a theme that resonates throughout Dragon Ball's treatment of its reformed villains.
