Jackie Chun faces Man-Wolf in Match 2, a grudge match born from the destruction of the moon three years earlier. After toying with his canine-natured opponent, Jackie wins by tossing a bone out of the ring and then uses hypnosis to restore Man-Wolf's human form.
Man-Wolf enters Match 2 consumed by hatred for Jackie Chun. The reason: during the 21st World Martial Arts Tournament, Jackie Chun destroyed the moon with a MAX Power Kamehameha to stop Goku's Great Ape transformation. Without the full moon, Man-Wolf lost his ability to transform back into a human, trapping him in his wolf form permanently.
The fight itself is completely one-sided. Man-Wolf throws punches and claw swipes with reckless abandon, but Jackie Chun dodges every attack with casual ease, sometimes while gazing at pretty women in the audience. When Man-Wolf pulls out a knife in desperation, Jackie catches it midair, tosses Man-Wolf into a wall, and flicks the blade so it sticks into the wall just inches from his head.
Jackie then exploits Man-Wolf's canine instincts. He commands him to shake, to heel, and finally tosses a bone out of the ring. Man-Wolf instinctively fetches it, landing outside the boundary and losing the match. Afterward, Jackie uses Krillin's bald head as a stand-in for the full moon, hypnotizing Man-Wolf into transforming back into a human. The newly restored man runs off in search of romance, though his human form leaves much to be desired.
The comedy in this episode is perfectly calibrated. Jackie Chun's dog-training sequence, where Man-Wolf involuntarily shakes hands, heels, and fetches a bone, is one of the funniest moments in the tournament. The crowd's laughter underscores how completely Jackie controls the situation.
The knife scene provides a genuine flash of tension before the humor returns. Man-Wolf's training flashback, showing months of dedicated preparation against a wooden Jackie Chun dummy, makes his utter failure land with both comedy and sympathy. Meanwhile, Tien observes from ringside and privately admits that Jackie Chun is the most skilled fighter he has ever encountered.
Man-Wolf's grudge is a clever callback to Episode 29, where Jackie Chun destroyed the moon to stop Great Ape Goku. The series rarely addresses the consequences of such extreme actions, making this subplot a satisfying piece of continuity.
Krillin and Goku's observation that Tien and Chiaotzu can fly is strategically important, as Krillin realizes they cannot simply throw the Crane students out of bounds. This detail shapes the approach both Turtle students will take in their upcoming matches. The episode sets up Match 3 between Krillin and Chiaotzu.
