Five years after the events of Dragon Ball, a mysterious alien warrior lands on Earth. After brushing aside a terrified farmer, the invader sets out in search of someone called "Kakarot," while Goku enjoys peaceful family life with his young son Gohan.
The world has been at peace for five years since Goku's victory at the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament. Goku has settled into a quiet domestic life with Chi-Chi and their four-year-old son, Gohan, named after Goku's late adoptive grandfather. While Goku chops firewood and prepares for a visit to Kame House, little Gohan wanders off into the forest, chasing butterflies and tangling with a sabertooth cat before tumbling into a river. Goku rescues his son using the Flying Nimbus just before the boy goes over a massive waterfall.
Meanwhile, a space pod crashes into a farmer's field, and a long-haired warrior emerges. The alien reads the terrified farmer's power level at a mere five, flicks the man's own bullet back at him, and takes off toward a much stronger signal, muttering the name "Kakarot." He arrives in a wasteland and confronts Piccolo, whose power level of 322 fails to impress. Piccolo's strongest blast does nothing. The alien leaves only when his scouter detects a higher power elsewhere, leaving Piccolo shaken to his core.
Gohan's debut establishes him as a bright but sheltered child who still possesses a Saiyan tail, hinting at latent power yet to surface. His hat, adorned with the Four-Star Dragon Ball, ties him directly to the legacy of Grandpa Gohan and the adventures that shaped his father.
The alien's arrival sets the entire series in motion. His scouter technology, casual deflection of gunfire, and total indifference to Piccolo's full-power attack establish a threat level far beyond anything Earth's fighters have faced. His ominous call of "Prepare yourself, Kakarot" reframes Goku's entire identity before the hero even knows what is coming.
This premiere bridges Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z, transforming the franchise from a martial arts adventure into a cosmic saga. The peaceful opening, contrasted with the alien's violent landing, signals that the stakes have permanently escalated. Every thread introduced here, from Gohan's hidden potential to the mysterious warrior's Saiyan origins, pays off across the episodes that follow.
