Two Journeys Converge

Gohan continues sparring with Piccolo, outmatched but refusing to surrender. That night, a dream about Raditz's attack sends Gohan into a frenzy. He fights with surprising ferocity, actually pressing Piccolo hard enough that the Namekian splits into two beings to gain the advantage. During the struggle, Piccolo notices that Gohan's tail has regrown and spots what appears to be the moon in the sky, its light emanating from Goku's original space pod.

The false moonlight triggers Gohan's transformation into a Great Ape. Piccolo dodges the rampaging beast and ultimately destroys the space pod itself, ending the transformation. With Gohan returned to normal and unconscious, Piccolo removes his tail once again as a precaution.

Meanwhile, Goku reaches the very end of Snake Way only to find nothing there. He looks upward and discovers a tiny planet hovering above. Upon flying to it, the intense gravity slams him into the ground. He encounters a playful monkey and mistakes it for King Kai, mimicking its antics until the real King Kai appears and introduces himself with a terrible joke.

A Beast Unleashed, A Master Found

Gohan's tail regrows after six months, and the false moonlight from Goku's space pod triggers his second Great Ape transformation. Piccolo is forced to destroy the capsule entirely before removing Gohan's tail again. At Kame House, Master Roshi and Bulma celebrate gathering all seven Dragon Balls while noticing the mysterious reappearance of the moon.

Goku's arrival at King Kai's Planet introduces both the eccentric martial arts master and his pet monkey Bubbles. The crushing ten-times-Earth gravity gives Goku his first taste of the training challenges ahead.
