The Spirit Bomb and a Telepathic Plea

King Kai puts Goku's training to one final test by having him create a Spirit Bomb, a technique that gathers energy from every living thing in the surrounding environment and compresses it into a single devastating sphere. Goku targets a large brick and obliterates it with ease, proving he has fully mastered the technique. However, King Kai issues a stern warning: the Spirit Bomb draws on the life energy of everything around the user, making it extremely dangerous to deploy on a populated planet like Earth. Goku files this away as a last resort.

With his training complete, Goku faces one remaining problem: he is still dead. Through King Kai's telepathic abilities, Goku sends a message across dimensions to Master Roshi, instructing his old teacher to gather the Dragon Balls and wish him back to life. The message reaches Roshi in the middle of a decidedly unglamorous moment, but the urgency is clear.

On Earth, Roshi, Bulma, and Oolong collect the seven Dragon Balls and summon Shenron. The eternal dragon grants Goku's resurrection, and he immediately begins sprinting back along Snake Way. The million-mile return trip must be completed before the Saiyans arrive, and time is running dangerously short.

The Saiyans Make Landfall

The Z Fighters expected to have one more day. They were wrong. Nappa and Vegeta touch down on Earth ahead of schedule, their space pods crashing into the surface with enough force to leave massive craters. The two Saiyans emerge with casual confidence, immediately surveying their new surroundings with a mixture of boredom and contempt. Nappa, the larger of the two, cheerfully suggests they announce their arrival, and the suggestion is as ominous as it sounds.

Goku is still running along Snake Way, desperately trying to make it back in time. The stage is set for the most consequential battle Earth's warriors have ever faced, and their strongest fighter is not there yet.

The Calm Before the Storm

This episode functions as the final hinge between preparation and conflict. Every training arc, every power-up, and every sacrifice has been building toward the Saiyan invasion, and the early arrival of Nappa and Vegeta strips away any remaining comfort. The defenders of Earth must now face the threat with or without Goku.

The summoning of Shenron provides one of the episode's most visually striking moments, the eternal dragon's massive form coiling against a darkened sky. It is a reminder that even in a world of alien invaders and planet-destroying warriors, the Dragon Balls remain the ultimate source of hope.
