An energy shield charge attack used by the original Z-movie Broly in his Legendary Super Saiyan form. Broly surrounds himself in green ki, leaps into the air, and slams down onto opponents with a devastating punch.
The Gigantic Slam is a two-part technique. First, Broly generates a dense green energy shield around his entire body, coating himself in protective ki. Then he launches himself skyward before crashing down on his target with a crushing overhead punch. The energy shield serves double duty, protecting Broly from incoming attacks during his approach while adding destructive force to the impact.
What makes the technique particularly notable is its defensive application. The energy shield component exists independently of the slam, and Broly uses it purely for protection in several scenes throughout the original movie trilogy.
The Gigantic Slam's most significant use of the shield portion comes not in battle but in survival. As a newborn infant, Broly instinctively generated this energy barrier to protect himself and his father Paragus when Planet Vegeta was destroyed by Frieza's Supernova. A baby, barely hours old, produced enough ki to survive the annihilation of an entire planet. It's one of the earliest demonstrations of Broly's terrifying innate potential.
In the first Broly film, he uses the slam portion to ambush Goku in his sleep, bending his bed frame from the force. He later charges through canyons using the energy shield while pursuing Goku, Gohan, and Future Trunks. In Broly: Second Coming, he uses the shield to survive being plunged into a lava pit by Gohan and later attempts to use it as a barrier against the Family Kamehameha, though it ultimately fails to protect him from the combined assault.
The Gigantic Slam appears in the Budokai series beginning with Burst Limit, where it functions as one of Legendary Super Saiyan Broly's Super Attacks. It also shows up in Infinite World. The technique's combination of defensive and offensive capabilities makes it a fitting representation of Broly's fighting philosophy: he doesn't need to dodge when he can simply absorb the hit and hit back harder.
