Nuova Shenron's signature fire-based energy sphere. He charges a spiraling flame ball in his mouth, shapes it between his hands like a Kamehameha, and launches it with devastating heat. Used both as a weapon and, surprisingly, as a rescue tool.
The Nova Star reflects Nuova Shenron's elemental identity as the Three-Star Shadow Dragon, a being of pure fire and heat. To perform the technique, Nuova generates a spiraling sphere of flame energy in his mouth, then transfers it to his hands and charges it in a fashion similar to the Kamehameha. He raises his charged hands and shouts "Nova Star!" before launching the blazing sphere at his target. On impact, the attack produces an intense fiery explosion with temperatures high enough to melt almost anything.
The technique's two-stage charging process, beginning in the mouth and finishing in the hands, gives it a distinctive visual flair. It combines the primal quality of a Mouth Energy Wave with the controlled delivery of a hand-fired sphere, matching Nuova's character as a Shadow Dragon who maintains his composure and honor even among villains.
The Nova Star's most memorable use in Dragon Ball GT was not an attack at all. After Eis Shenron encased Super Saiyan 4 Goku entirely in ice using his Ice Ray, Eis demanded that his brother Nuova destroy the frozen Saiyan. Nuova charged up the Nova Star and fired it directly at Goku. To everyone watching, it appeared that Goku had been vaporized.
But Nuova had not aimed to kill. He used the intense heat of the Nova Star specifically to melt the ice encasing Goku, freeing him without dealing fatal damage. The moment Goku broke free, he attacked the treacherous Eis Shenron, and the audience realized that Nuova had secretly saved his opponent's life. It was a defining character moment for Nuova, establishing him as the only Shadow Dragon with a sense of honor, and it made the Nova Star memorable as both a weapon and a tool of mercy.
Nuova also used a variation of the Nova Star while pretending to serve under Omega Shenron's control. In the original Japanese version, he shouts "Nova Star!" when firing a focused, lens-like version of the attack. The Funimation dub distinguishes this variant by naming it "Nova Death Ray" to differentiate it from the original spherical version.
In video games, the Nova Star appears as Nuova Shenron's signature super attack in Budokai Tenkaichi 3 and the Xenoverse series, where it is named Burst Attack. The technique can also be learned by custom characters in Xenoverse. Nuova Shenron may not be the most powerful Shadow Dragon, but his combination of fire-based abilities, martial honor, and the Nova Star make him one of the most respected villains in Dragon Ball GT.
