Chapter 292

From the plane, Best Jeanist watches the recording and understands the scheduling behind it: Dabi waited to air the filth until the heroes were visibly failing to prevent mass destruction and public belief was already wobbling. He jumps, refusing to let it stand, and announces the Thread of Hope he intends to weave. The wires he brought down with him catch the whole League of Villains, Gigantomachia included.

Katsuki finds it funny that this is where the missing man turned up. Dabi cannot square it, since Hawks delivered a corpse. Best Jeanist tells him his ambitions have outrun him and that he will fray like cheap denim. Dabi's answer is that a living Best Jeanist buries none of what the Todoroki family did. Mr. Compress marvels at a pinned Gigantomachia; Spinner, bundled up with Tomura, thinks his back is about to give.

Spinner also notices the giant has been winded since the moment they arrived, having gone this whole way on one old order. Without a new command he cannot cut loose, so Spinner claws at Tomura to wake him and start the destruction he promised. Nejire Chan goes for Tomura and takes Dabi's flames instead, in full view of Shoto and the rest. Falling, she becomes Dabi's next line: another bright young thing burned up by Endeavor's fire, delivered as he tears free. Shoto begs him to stop, Izuku begs his own body to work, and Best Jeanist, wavering, plants himself on the refusal to let the number one hero go down here.

Tomura surfaces long enough to say the word, destroy, and the giant surges with borrowed strength that sets the threads groaning. Among the Pro Heroes working the Near High-Ends, half are reported down on either side, and four of the Nomu peel off toward Tomura. Burnin reads the coordination and moves to intercept, and one turns on her, only to be struck away by someone unseen.

Gigantomachia keeps straining while Shoto trades blows with his brother. Shoto throws it in his face that one of the villains he aimed at Endeavor nearly killed Natsuo, the same brother he claims he wept to every day. Dabi's regret is that it did not work, since a death would have hurt the man more. Asked whether he is insane, he says feeling stopped a while ago, and starts driving Shoto back, thrilled at the prospect of killing him at last. Mr. Compress calls Spinner's attention backward: the Near High-Ends have Best Jeanist in their sights. Izuku sees it too, and knows that if the man's concentration breaks the giant is loose. Ingenium catches the falling Nejire Chan. Izuku keeps ordering himself upright, reasoning that Blackwhip and Float make broken limbs beside the point, refusing to be the useless Deku who saves nobody.

Lemillion comes up out of the ground and scatters the Nomu with Permeation, and Izuku can only stare.

Best Jeanist binds the entire League of Villains with massive thread, Gigantomachia among them, which only works because the giant's stamina has already collapsed.

Nejire Chan tries for Spinner and Tomura and is engulfed by Dabi's flames instead. Tomura wakes enough to order the rampage resumed, and the exhausted giant finds a surge of energy and starts breaking loose.

The activated Near High-End Nomu abandon the other Pro Heroes to reach Tomura. Burnin moves to stop them and is attacked, then rescued by an unidentified assailant. Shoto intercepts Dabi and tries to reason with him, without success.

As the Nomu close on Best Jeanist to free Gigantomachia and the threads begin to give, Ingenium catches the badly burned Nejire Chan and Lemillion phases up through the ground in full costume, knocking the Nomu back and revealing that his Quirk has returned.

Threads of Hope is chapter 292, running seventeen pages. Issue 52 of 2020 published it on November 30, volume 30 collects it, and it sits inside the Paranormal Liberation War arc. Episode 125 adapts it.

Best Jeanist takes the cover for the second time in five chapters. His Ultimate Move, Thread of Hope, debuts here alongside the carbon fiber wires he brought off the plane. Horikoshi's comment expresses relief at getting to read Shimabu's manga again.
