Chapter 395

The Double swarm thins over the ruins and the city beyond, uncovering Endeavor, the rest of the Todorokis, Tenya Ida and Hawks. A Himiko Double leaves Hawks with fresh knife cuts before it disappears, and he calls it fair, since Twice genuinely was a decent man.

Himiko had believed her knife was how she became the people she loved. It turned into a tool of anger and hatred instead, aimed at making the world livable. She stands over a barely conscious Ochaco while her body aches from borrowing a Quirk through Transform, and she notices that Ochaco is still working Zero Gravity so that every hero caught in it comes down softly, because she will not let anyone drop.

Ochaco cannot move. She has lost too much blood, her brain is slipping away from her body, and she fights to stay awake. Himiko tells her the wound went bad because she refused to stop moving after being stabbed, and reminds her that the League wants everything torn down, and that the world waiting on the far side of that would finally suit her.

Then she drinks a little of Ochaco's blood and takes her shape. Those words made her happy, Himiko says, and survival or not, a world without her is unbearable. She fits her blood disposal gear into Ochaco's arm and her own, offering everything she has as proof the feeling is real. Ochaco breathes again. Himiko explains that Twice once saved her exactly this way, and with his Quirk gone she borrowed Ochaco's instead, since a shared Quirk means shared blood.

Ochaco tries to stop her, knowing the cost. Himiko asks whether she truly meant to visit a prison and give blood until it killed her, when capturing the villain and clearing the freaks out of the world would have been the proper heroic answer, and yet she spent a thought on someone who hurt her friends and hurt her. She calls her weird through tears, and Ochaco says the same back. Himiko intends to live and to love exactly as she wants, so she will not be captured, and she does not want Ochaco slipping away either, and she is sorry for the stabbing and the shouting.

Dabi burned her childhood home down for her, she says, an ordinary house stuffed with awful things, and watching it go made her happy, though the awful things stayed inside her chest. Ochaco never removed them, but the moment her hand landed, Himiko's heart went light enough to float. She thanks her for all of it. Thinking of how badly she wanted to be other people and how she drank from them out of envy and attraction, she wonders whether knowing this feeling sooner would have made her want to give blood too, and whether that kind of love would have made living easier. Ochaco calls her name and slips under. Himiko dies on her own terms, an ordinary girl with the best smile in the world.

The Double swarm finally vanishes, leaving Endeavor, the Todoroki family and Tenya alive, while Hawks is left with knife wounds.

Ochaco nears death from blood loss and serious injury while still holding everyone aloft with her Quirk.

Himiko transforms into Ochaco to match her blood and transfuses her, spending her own life to do it.

Himiko accepts her feelings and her end, thanking Ochaco as the two hold each other in tears.

Chapter 395 of My Hero Academia, by Kohei Horikoshi, ran July 24, 2023 in issue 34 at fifteen pages, sits in Volume 39, and is adapted in Episode 159.

The chapter concludes Pro Heroes and Trainees vs. Himiko Toga and Doubles within the Final War arc. Horikoshi's comment notes that he drew each scene while playing music that matched it.
