The Man Behind the Capsules

Dr. Brief is rarely seen without his ever-present cat Scratch perched on his shoulder and a cigarette in his hand. Despite being one of the wealthiest and most brilliant people on the planet, he maintains a laid-back, grandfatherly demeanor and seems more interested in tinkering with inventions than running a corporate empire. His wife Bikini shares his relaxed attitude, and together they provide a comedically calm household that contrasts with the chaos their daughter Bulma regularly brings home.

His contributions to the Z Fighters' efforts are substantial, even if they happen off-screen. Dr. Brief repairs and upgrades the Saiyan space pods, builds the gravity training chamber that Vegeta uses to push his limits, and provides the technical infrastructure that allows Bulma to pursue her own inventions. When Goku needs a ship to travel to Namek, it is Dr. Brief who modifies a Namekian vessel to be flight-ready in record time, complete with a gravity training system for the journey.

Dr. Brief's most understated quality is his acceptance of the bizarre. When Vegeta, a former enemy who tried to destroy Earth, moves into his home, Dr. Brief treats him with the same cheerful hospitality he extends to everyone. He builds Vegeta a gravity room without complaint and even engages the Saiyan prince in casual conversation, seemingly unbothered by living with one of the most dangerous beings in the universe. This easygoing nature suggests that Bulma's own fearlessness is inherited rather than learned.
