Mr. Popo

Mr. Popo has tended the Lookout for centuries, predating even Kami's tenure as Earth's Guardian. He maintains the grounds, cares for the sacred garden, and serves as a guide for anyone who reaches the top of Korin Tower and ascends to the platform above. His knowledge of the Lookout's secrets, including the Hyperbolic Time Chamber and the means to travel to Planet Namek, makes him an indispensable source of information for the Z Fighters throughout the series.

When Goku first arrives at the Lookout to train with Kami, Mr. Popo becomes his sparring partner and teacher. Despite Goku's impressive strength at the time, Popo easily outclasses him, dodging every attack with calm precision and teaching Goku the importance of sensing ki rather than relying on sight alone. This training fundamentally transforms Goku's combat approach, giving him the ability to detect opponents without seeing them.

Before the Saiyan invasion, Mr. Popo trains Krillin, Yamcha, Tien, Chiaotzu, and Yajirobe at the Lookout alongside Kami. He oversees their preparation in the Pendulum Room, a device that lets fighters experience battles from different eras, and ensures they are as prepared as possible for the incoming threat. His role during this period is that of a quiet, reliable instructor who pushes the fighters beyond their perceived limits.

Throughout Dragon Ball Z, Mr. Popo's contributions are logistical rather than combative, but they are no less critical. He reveals the existence of the ancient Namekian spaceship hidden beneath the Lookout, which Bulma uses as a reference to reach Planet Namek. Without this discovery, the journey to Namek and the events of the entire Frieza Saga would not have been possible.

When Kami merges with Piccolo to combat the Android threat, Mr. Popo transitions his service to Dende, the young Namekian who becomes the new Guardian of Earth. Popo guides Dende into his role and helps him create a new set of Dragon Balls, restoring the ability to make wishes that had been lost with Kami's departure. His patience and gentle instruction help the nervous young Guardian find his confidence.

During the Buu Saga, Popo manages the Lookout as it becomes a refuge for the survivors of Buu's rampage. He oversees the Hyperbolic Time Chamber where Goten and Trunks train to master Fusion, and he is present when Super Buu arrives and turns the remaining survivors into chocolate. Despite the danger, Popo's composure rarely breaks. He is a steady presence in a world of constant crisis, embodying the quiet dedication that keeps the Lookout and its sacred purpose intact across generations.
