Story and Motivations

In Dragon Ball Super: Broly, Paragus is portrayed as an aging Saiyan warrior consumed by resentment. When King Vegeta banished the infant Broly to the desolate planet Vampa out of jealousy over the child's extraordinary power level, Paragus pursued his son and became stranded there as well. Over the following decades, he raised Broly in isolation, training him as a weapon while struggling to control the boy's overwhelming power.

Paragus fashioned a shock collar device to keep Broly's rages in check, a cruel but arguably necessary measure given the danger of Broly's uncontrolled power. When members of the Frieza Force eventually discover them on Vampa, Paragus seizes the opportunity to use Broly as an instrument of revenge against the Vegeta bloodline.

Paragus meets his end when Frieza murders him in cold blood during the battle on Earth. Frieza kills him deliberately to trigger Broly's transformation into a Super Saiyan through grief and rage. The tactic works, and Broly's already staggering power increases dramatically. Paragus is notable as the first Saiyan shown to have visibly aged past his fighting prime, with gray hair reflecting his advanced years.
