Piccolo and Dende attempt to link their energy across dimensions to open a gateway out of Hell for Goku. On Earth, Super 17 continues to dominate every Z Fighter who challenges him, until Pan captures Dr. Gero and forces a standoff that exposes the fractures in the villains' alliance.
Goku watches his friends struggle against Super 17 through Hell's viewing glass while Piccolo devises a plan. He contacts Dende at the Lookout, and the two Namekians attempt to create an interconnecting energy beam between Hell and Earth. In theory, their synchronized power should tear open a gateway. The first several attempts fail, and Goku grows increasingly hungry as he waits.
Goku eventually suggests they use a rhythmic chant to synchronize their energy. Piccolo reluctantly tries the ridiculous phrase, and it works. The gateway opens, but Piccolo warns Goku that if he moves even slightly, the portal will collapse. Goku escapes with Piccolo's encouragement, promising to repay him someday.
On the battlefield, the Z Fighters throw everything they have at Super 17 without making a dent. Vegeta transforms into a Super Saiyan and unleashes his power, but Super 17 simply turns the energy against him. Pan, unable to watch any longer, captures Dr. Gero and threatens to destroy him unless Super 17 stands down.
Super 17 stops, but then turns on Dr. Gero himself. Dr. Myuu reveals the truth: he designed Super 17 to obey only his commands. Super 17 destroys Dr. Gero on Myuu's orders, sending the old scientist back to Hell. The alliance between the two doctors shatters in an instant.
After Piccolo's gateway closes, the Namekian finds himself surrounded by Nappa and several Red Ribbon Army soldiers in Hell. Unfazed, he treats them as target practice. Back in Hell, the ogres push Cell and Frieza back to their cells while Piccolo holds his ground.
On Earth, Vegeta is battered and nearly finished when Goku bursts through, knocking him clear of Super 17's energy blast just in time. Dr. Myuu remains confident that his creation is more than a match for Goku, but the Saiyan transforms into Super Saiyan form, ready to prove him wrong. The final confrontation with Super 17 is about to begin.
