A Decision at Last! Is the Winner Beerus? Or Is It Champa?

EpisodeEp. 40

The Universe 6 versus 7 tournament concludes with Goku voluntarily stepping out of the ring to give Hit a fair fight another day. Hit returns the gesture by throwing his match against Monaka, handing Universe 7 the victory just before Zeno, the King of All, makes his first appearance.

Two Forfeits and a King

The collision between Goku's Kaio-ken-enhanced Kamehameha and Hit's Time-Skip creates an explosion so massive that Whis and Vados must shield the spectators. When the dust settles, both fighters are standing on the competitor signs at the ring's edge. They agree the signs count as part of the arena and continue. Hit reveals he has further improved his Time-Skip to literally freeze Goku in time, while Goku's Kaio-ken begins to take its toll on his body.

Champa orders Hit to stall until Goku's technique burns out, but Cabba protests that such a tactic would insult Hit's pride. Champa dismisses the concern, calling all the fighters "pawns" in his rivalry with Beerus. Both Goku and Hit glare at Champa, who stumbles over himself in response. After another fierce exchange, Goku makes a surprising request: he asks Beerus to remove all tournament rules so Hit can use his killing techniques without restriction. Goku admits that Hit has been forced to hold back his strongest moves because of the no-killing rule.

While Beerus and Champa argue over the request, Goku decides on his own terms. He promises Hit they will fight again someday with no rules and no restrictions, then willingly jumps out of the ring. Hit is declared the winner. Monaka enters the final match shaking with terror and throws a comically weak punch. Hit, recognizing Monaka as an amateur, repays Goku's gesture by deliberately launching himself out of the ring. Universe 7 wins the tournament. An enraged Champa prepares to destroy his own team for losing, but Vados interrupts to announce the arrival of Zeno, the King of All, whose sudden appearance leaves both Beerus and Champa visibly shaken.

Honor Among Fighters

Goku's decision to forfeit is baffling to everyone around him but perfectly consistent with his character. He does not fight to win tournaments; he fights to test himself. Continuing the match under rules that prevent Hit from fighting at full power diminishes the experience for both of them. By stepping out, Goku preserves the possibility of a future rematch where both combatants can hold nothing back.

Hit's response is equally telling. He throws the match against Monaka not out of obligation but because Goku earned his respect. The assassin who has never failed to bring down a target chooses to lose deliberately. He tells Champa to take him home and relinquishes his claim to the Cube, the very prize he was fighting for. The tournament ends not with a climactic blow but with mutual acknowledgment between two warriors.

Enter the King of All

Zeno's arrival in the final moments of the episode reframes everything that came before. Two Gods of Destruction who casually threaten to annihilate planets are reduced to trembling subordinates the instant Zeno appears. His presence suggests a hierarchy of power that dwarfs anything the tournament showcased. Champa's attempt to destroy his own team for losing, stopped only by Zeno's arrival, reveals the petty tyranny lurking beneath the sibling rivalry. The Universe 6 Saga closes its tournament chapter here, but the introduction of Zeno opens a door to far larger consequences.
