Brave Sword Attack

Technique

A powerful swordsmanship technique performed with the legendary Brave Sword. The user delivers rapid slashes, charges the blade with ki energy, and finishes with a devastating high-speed cut. Associated primarily with Tapion from the film Wrath of the Dragon.

Execution

The Brave Sword Attack begins with the user delivering two quick slashes to the opponent. After the initial cuts, the wielder channels ki energy directly into the Brave Sword, causing the blade to glow with power. The user then charges forward at extreme speed and delivers a final slash so fast it appears to happen instantaneously. The combination of physical swordsmanship and ki enhancement makes this one of the few techniques in Dragon Ball that bridges melee weapon combat with energy manipulation.

Origins and Usage

The technique originated with the Konatsian Wizard, a legendary hero from Planet Konats who used the Brave Sword to seal the monster Hirudegarn. Tapion, who inherits the Brave Sword and the burden of containing Hirudegarn's upper half within his own body, carries on this fighting tradition. In Wrath of the Dragon, the technique's history is referenced when explaining how the original Konatsian Wizard defeated Hirudegarn centuries earlier.

Trunks' Connection

After the events of the film, Tapion gives the Brave Sword to young Trunks. This gift is frequently cited as the origin of Future Trunks' iconic sword, though the timeline details create some continuity questions since Future Trunks' sword appears before the events of the movie in his timeline. Trunks performs a similar sword technique called the Shining Slash to sever Hirudegarn's tail during the film's climax.

In Games

The Brave Sword Attack appears across the Budokai Tenkaichi series as Tapion's Ultimate Blast, Dragon Ball Heroes, Dokkan Battle, and Xenoverse 2 where it was added as part of the Extra Pack 1 DLC. In the Tenkaichi games, it is notably one of only four rush-type attacks capable of hitting giant characters, alongside Yajirobe's Miracle Ka-Blam Slash, Goku's Dragon Fist, and Gohan's Special Beam Cannon. In Xenoverse 2, the technique gains enhanced speed through rapid movement, and Future Trunks can also equip it through Partner Customization.
