Full Power Energy Ball

Technique

A stronger variation of the standard energy sphere used by dozens of fighters throughout the franchise. The user pours additional ki into the attack before release, creating a more powerful and often larger projectile.

The Upgraded Ki Sphere

The Full Power Energy Ball is exactly what it sounds like: a standard energy sphere charged with significantly more ki than usual. Nearly every fighter in the Dragon Ball universe has used some version of this technique at one point or another, from Frieza Force grunts to gods. The user forms a concentrated ball of energy in one or both hands and launches it with greater force and destructive potential than a typical ki blast.

What distinguishes the Full Power Energy Ball from named signature attacks like the Big Bang Attack is its generic nature. It's the default "try harder" version of throwing energy at someone, available to anyone with enough power to pull it off. Some fighters launch them one-handed, others use both hands, and a few like Garlic Jr. have been known to fire three in rapid succession.

Across the Series

The technique first appears early in the Frieza Saga and becomes increasingly common as power levels rise. Burter and Jeice use paired Full Power Energy Balls as part of their Continuous Crasher Cannon combination attack. The Androids, particularly 17 and his future counterpart, favor them during their destructive rampages. Bojack and his crew rely on these attacks heavily during the events of Bojack Unbound.

In Dragon Ball Super, even cosmic-level beings default to this technique. Whis casually fires one during training sessions, and the Universe Survival arc features numerous fighters using Full Power Energy Balls when their signature moves aren't available or appropriate.

Variations and Video Games

The video game franchise has codified the Full Power Energy Ball as a standard attack type, particularly in the Budokai Tenkaichi and Raging Blast series where it appears in the movesets of dozens of characters. Dragon Ball Heroes introduced a special "Super Energy Sphere" card mechanic that puts characters into sparking mode and quadruples their damage output.

Notable variations include the Combined Energy Ball, where two fighters merge their spheres into one before launching, and the Underground Energy Ball used by Bido in Bojack Unbound. The technique's universality makes it one of the most frequently seen attacks in Dragon Ball, even if it rarely gets the spotlight that named signature moves enjoy.
