Summary
The Hachikawa Squad keeps battling the Aogiri Tree on Rushima. As Hachikawa taunts Takizawa with a remark about Houji, Shikorae springs on him from behind and tears off his nose. Seidou Takizawa then buries Chuu Hachikawa under a storm of ukaku shards and shatters his quinque, and with the investigator disarmed and helpless, Shikorae runs him through from behind, killing him. Shikorae lunges at Tooru Mutsuki and Ayumu Hogi, but the two get away, while he and Seidou settle in to devour Hachikawa.
Sheltering in a cave, Mutsuki tends Hogi's injuries. Hogi recalls Hachikawa taking part in an operation against the Black Dobers, after which his personality grew warped. Widely disliked across the CCG, he was still someone Hogi liked and Mutsuki admired, and Hogi remembers him easing her insecurity about her freckles by baring the scars around his own mouth. Karao Saeki suddenly appears, grabs Hogi by the hair and slams her face into a wall, then chokes Mutsuki.
Nimura Furuta and Kishou Arima sit in on a meeting of V. Kaiko asks whether Eto Yoshimura is the One-Eyed King; Arima suggests she is while Furuta mockingly agrees. Kaiko orders Arima to deal with Rize Kamishiro and assigns Furuta to watch over Haise Sasaki and Eto.
After a haircut, Eto asks Haise to accompany her to a press conference about her final book, and he agrees. With many civilians tuning in, Eto announces before revealing the new work that she is a ghoul and that she wrote the book for her fellow ghouls.
