Gatz

Gatz takes his look from an ancient Spartan warrior. Crowning his head is a golden helmet bearing a tall, dark plume, while a golden breastplate guards his torso above a dark skirt. His brown hair grows long, spilling roughly to the midpoint of his back and falling across a cape, while a black goatee sits on his chin.

His job calls for neutrality from the commentary booth, yet his feelings keep breaking through. He was visibly stunned and let down at Hack's defeat, openly rooted for the gladiator Lucy, and objected to the rule-breaking when Sabo quietly took Luffy's spot in the finals. Gatz holds the strong in high regard and praised Luffy's skill in spite of his small frame. A selfless streak runs through him as well: he pledged to stall Doflamingo so Luffy could regain ten minutes of strength, pulled the Warlord's fury away from Rebecca and Viola, and refused to send anyone into a fight while injured, even with disaster bearing down. Toward Doflamingo he once displayed the reverence shared by most of Dressrosa, addressing him as his majesty, until the tyrant's true colors emerged and Gatz turned against him, denouncing him over the broadcast as a false ruler and taking a string spear through his body for it.

Gatz launched the tournament by presenting the competing Donquixote Pirates and revealing the prize, the Mera Mera no Mi, then declared the Block A free-for-all won by a disguised Jesus Burgess. Across Blocks B, C, and D he fought to keep his biases in check, reacting to Hack's fall, Bartolomeo's upsets, the rise of Lucy, and Rebecca's surprising win. After Doflamingo unleashed the Birdcage and was nearly beaten, Gatz and the colosseum's gladiators threw their support behind Luffy; he ferried the worn-out pirate to safety and was shielded from Burgess by Sabo, then discovered the pair were brothers. Passing Luffy to Trafalgar Law, Gatz scaled the palace mountain and broadcast the truth that the gladiator Lucy had been Luffy all along and that he would soon bring Doflamingo down. By taunting the Warlord to spare Viola and Rebecca, he was run through yet kept his faith. He wept with joy at Luffy's return, announced the victory once Doflamingo fell, and afterward proclaimed that Riku Doldo III had reclaimed his throne. Non-canonically, he reappears cheering at the Pirates Festival in the film Stampede.
