Before the semifinals begin, the tournament announcer interviews Goku and Krillin. Krillin reveals he is 13 and trained under Master Roshi, which draws an awed reaction from the crowd. Jackie Chun steals the microphone for a song-and-dance routine, and Goku enthusiastically joins in. The comedy gives way to action as the gong rings and the semifinal begins.

Invisible Blows

Jackie Chun's speed is otherworldly. His first serious attack sends Krillin crashing into a wall before anyone in the crowd can see what happened. Goku, however, tracks the movement and coaches Krillin to focus his mind. On the next exchange, Krillin successfully blocks one of Jackie's punches, but the old man quickly lands a devastating combination that drops Krillin to the ground. He barely survives the ten-count.

Panties and the Afterimage

The announcer asks Jackie Chun to reenact his attack in slow motion, producing one of the tournament's most absurd and entertaining sequences. After the comedy, Krillin plays his trump card: he throws a pair of lady's panties onto the arena floor. Jackie Chun's guard drops instantly. Krillin lands a clean kick, but Jackie recovers mid-air with a Reverse Kamehameha to propel himself back into the ring. Krillin charges again but strikes only an Afterimage, and Jackie Chun finishes him with a double karate chop to the neck. Jackie Chun advances to the finals.

The slow-motion reenactment sequence is pure Dragon Ball at its finest. Jackie Chun and Krillin recruit the announcer to physically carry them through each beat of the exchange, complete with rock-paper-scissors, nose blowing, and spit. It is a comedy masterpiece that somehow deepens the audience's appreciation of how fast the real exchange was.

The Panty Gambit

Krillin's decision to weaponize Jackie Chun's weakness for women is simultaneously brilliant and hilarious. It actually works, landing Krillin his best hit of the match, but Jackie Chun's Reverse Kamehameha recovery proves that no single trick can overcome the gap in their abilities.

This episode features the first use of the Reverse Kamehameha as a recovery tool, firing the blast at the ground to propel oneself back into the ring. The Afterimage Technique also debuts in the tournament setting. Yamcha continues to accuse Jackie Chun of being Master Roshi, but Jackie's glued-on wig and Goku's comment that he "doesn't smell like Master Roshi" keep the disguise intact for now.
