A New Chapter Begins

The Dragon Ball Z Kai series leaps forward seven years in a single cut, and the world that greets us is fundamentally different from the one left behind. Goku is still dead, choosing to remain in Other World. Mr. Satan has been celebrated as the hero who defeated Cell for the better part of a decade. And Gohan, the actual savior of the world, is a teenager heading to his first day of high school.

Chi-Chi's influence has clearly won out during the intervening years. Gohan has been studying relentlessly, earning top marks that would make him the envy of any academic institution. Orange Star High School, located in Satan City (renamed in honor of its supposed hero), becomes his daily destination. The commute itself is remarkable: Gohan flies on the Flying Nimbus partway, then drops down to run the final stretch on foot, dodging public attention the entire way.

The peaceful routine shatters almost immediately. Gohan encounters a bank robbery in progress during his commute. Unable to stand by while people are in danger, he transforms into a Super Saiyan and dispatches the robbers with casual ease. The problem is that dozens of witnesses see a golden-haired warrior intervene, and the "Golden-Haired Warrior" becomes instant city gossip.

High School and Secrets

At Orange Star High, Gohan meets his new classmates, including Videl, the daughter of Mr. Satan. Videl is sharp, athletic, and deeply suspicious of anyone who seems out of the ordinary. When Gohan accidentally reveals his extraordinary physical abilities during gym class, performing feats that no normal teenager could manage, Videl's suspicions lock onto him immediately.

Gohan's attempts to blend in are comically unsuccessful. He is too strong, too fast, and too polite to be anything resembling an ordinary student. Every effort to downplay his abilities only draws more attention, and the rumors about the Golden-Haired Warrior make his situation worse. He needs a way to intervene in emergencies without revealing his identity.

The Birth of a Disguise

After school, Gohan visits Bulma at Capsule Corporation and explains his predicament. Bulma, always eager to solve problems through technology, designs a watch-shaped transformation device. With the press of a button, Gohan can instantly change into a costume that conceals his identity, allowing him to fight crime without exposing his true self.

The tone of this episode marks a dramatic shift from the life-or-death stakes of the Cell saga. Where the previous arc dealt with planetary annihilation and personal sacrifice, this new chapter opens with high school comedy and secret identity shenanigans. It is a deliberate reset that signals the series is entering a lighter, more character-driven phase while still maintaining the potential for large-scale conflict ahead.
