Gamma 2 is a superhero-themed android created by Dr. Hedo as part of the revived Red Ribbon Army's plan to destroy the remaining Z Fighters. Theatrical, dramatic, and obsessed with heroic posing, Gamma 2 genuinely believes he is a force for good, unaware that his creator's employers are the villains of the story.
Dr. Hedo, the brilliant grandson of Dr. Gero, designed Gamma 2 and his partner Gamma 1 as the pinnacle of android engineering. Unlike the cold, mechanical androids of Gero's era, the Gammas were built with distinct personalities, human-like emotions, and a strong moral compass centered around heroism. Gamma 2 in particular embraced the role of a superhero with enormous enthusiasm, striking dramatic poses, delivering speeches about justice, and genuinely caring about protecting innocent people.
The problem was that Magenta, the leader of the revived Red Ribbon Army, had manipulated Dr. Hedo into believing that Piccolo and the other Z Fighters were dangerous threats to Earth. Hedo, a genius with limited social awareness, accepted this narrative without much scrutiny, and the Gammas followed their creator's lead. Gamma 2 fought Piccolo with genuine conviction that he was defending the world from a powerful evil.
His combat abilities were considerable. Gamma 2 could match Piccolo in his enhanced forms and demonstrated speed, firepower, and tactical awareness that placed him among the upper tier of fighters. His energy attacks were concentrated into precise, beam-like blasts, and his android body gave him stamina advantages over biological fighters.
When the truth about the Red Ribbon Army was revealed and Cell Max was prematurely activated, Gamma 2 immediately switched sides. Cell Max, an incomplete recreation of Cell designed by Dr. Hedo but activated before it was finished, was a mindless, destructive monster with power rivaling that of Broly. It lacked intelligence or restraint, making it arguably more dangerous than the original Cell.
Recognizing that Cell Max needed to be destroyed and that a weak point existed on the top of its head, Gamma 2 made the decision to sacrifice himself. He gathered all of his energy into a single, massive blast aimed directly at Cell Max's vulnerable spot. The attack critically damaged Cell Max, cracking its core and creating the opening that allowed Orange Piccolo and Gohan Beast to finish the job.
Gamma 2's death was one of the most emotionally resonant moments in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. He died doing exactly what he was built to do: being a hero. Unlike so many deaths in Dragon Ball, his sacrifice felt permanent and meaningful, as there was no immediate indication that he would be rebuilt or revived. His partner Gamma 1 survived and went on to serve as a bodyguard for the Capsule Corporation, but Gamma 2's story ended in the way that would have made him proudest.
