Makosen

Technique

A Demon Clan energy wave technique created by King Piccolo and later refined by his reincarnation. The original fires two blasts in sequence, one as a feint and one as the real strike. Piccolo Jr. later combined both into a single, more powerful beam.

The Demon's Flash of Light

The Makosen belongs to the Demon Clan's school of energy techniques, a lineage that includes the Explosive Demon Wave, Masenko, and Light Grenade. As created by King Piccolo, the technique has a clever tactical design: the user fires two energy waves in rapid succession. The first wave serves as a distraction, drawing the opponent's attention and defensive response. The second wave follows immediately behind it, aimed to strike the target while they are occupied dealing with the first.

This two-stage design reflects King Piccolo's cunning nature. Unlike Goku or Roshi, who tend to overpower opponents with raw force, the Demon King preferred techniques that exploited gaps in an opponent's guard. The Makosen is as much about deception as it is about firepower.

Father and Son's Different Approaches

When Piccolo Jr. inherited the technique from his genetic memories, he modified it. Rather than firing two separate blasts, Piccolo Jr. combined the twin waves into a single, larger, and more destructive beam. This evolution reflects the differences between father and son: King Piccolo relied on trickery and strategy, while Piccolo Jr. had enough raw power to simply overwhelm his targets outright.

King Piccolo used the Makosen against Goku during their climactic battle. After the young warrior proved surprisingly resilient, King Piccolo unleashed the twin blast technique, with the first wave catching Goku off guard and the follow-up dealing serious damage. It was one of the attacks that made their fight feel truly desperate, as Goku struggled against a villain who fought as dirty as he was powerful.

The Demon Technique Family Tree

The Makosen sits in an interesting position within the Demon Clan's technique hierarchy. It is described as a weaker variation of the Explosive Demon Wave, King Piccolo's ultimate attack. Below it sits the Masenko, which Piccolo taught to Gohan and which became that young fighter's signature move. The Light Grenade exists alongside these techniques as a sphere variant rather than a wave. Together, these attacks form a complete family of techniques rooted in the same demonic energy manipulation.

In video games, the Makosen appears as one of Piccolo's and King Piccolo's available attacks, though it is generally overshadowed by the more famous Special Beam Cannon and Light Grenade. The Dragon Ball Heroes series includes it as the Demon Force Wave, keeping the technique alive for players who appreciate the deeper cuts of the franchise's move list.
