Role in the Story
West Kai governs the western section of Universe 7, overseeing the souls and planets within his domain. He is shorter than King Kai and far more competitive, constantly looking for ways to prove his quadrant produces the strongest warriors in the universe.
His rivalry with North Kai takes center stage during the Other World Tournament. West Kai's prized student, Pikkon, is his answer to Goku, and the two Kais make constant wagers and jabs at each other throughout the competition. West Kai is visibly smug whenever Pikkon performs well and equally distressed when Goku outshines his pupil.
Despite his competitive nature, West Kai is not malicious. He genuinely cares about his students and takes his divine responsibilities seriously. He appears again during the Majin Buu Saga, reacting to the catastrophic events on Earth, and briefly in Dragon Ball GT during the Shadow Dragon Saga.
