After Earth's destruction, Goku, Vegeta, and the survivors regroup on the Sacred World of the Kai. Kid Buu regenerates and rampages across the universe, destroying planets while searching for the Saiyans. When the heroes refuse fusion via Potara earrings, they power up to draw Buu to their location for a final confrontation.
With Earth reduced to nothing, the survivors find themselves stranded on the Sacred World of the Kai. Goku, Vegeta, Dende, Mr. Satan, and Kibito Kai take stock of what they have lost. Old Kai delivers the grim news that not only is the planet gone, but Gohan, Goten, Trunks, and Piccolo perished along with it. Mr. Satan, in characteristic fashion, refuses to believe any of this is real and even attempts to prove he can fly by leaping off a cliff.
Vegeta is furious with Goku for prioritizing Mr. Satan and Dende over their sons. Yet Dende offers a lifeline: the Namekian Dragon Balls on New Namek could reverse the catastrophe. Kibito Kai reveals his Kai Kai technique can teleport them to any planet, giving the group renewed hope. Old Kai protests that Dragon Balls should not be used to fix problems on other worlds, but Goku slyly bribes him with a promise involving an Earth woman. Vegeta, overhearing the plan involves Bulma, erupts in protective rage.
In the void of space, Kid Buu reforms and begins his hunt. Unable to sense Goku and Vegeta across the cosmos, he resorts to brute force, teleporting from world to world and obliterating each one. The heroes watch in horror through the Crystal Ball as planet after planet vanishes. Buu has somehow mastered Instant Transmission, making his destructive spree terrifyingly efficient.
Eventually, Buu locks onto the energy signatures at Grand Kai's Planet, where Krillin and Yamcha are training among the deceased fighters. He arrives and immediately begins causing havoc, swatting aside warriors who mistake him for a new trainee.
Old Kai proposes the Potara earrings once more, urging Goku and Vegeta to fuse and end Buu decisively. Both Saiyans flatly refuse and crush their respective earrings. They have made their choice: this battle will be fought on their own terms. On Grand Kai's Planet, Buu charges a massive energy sphere to destroy everything.
Recognizing they have no other option, Goku and Vegeta power up together, flaring their energy across the cosmos like a beacon. Kid Buu senses the signal instantly and abandons his assault, teleporting straight to the Sacred World of the Kai. He arrives with a menacing grin, and the stage is set for the universe's final battle.
