Goku reaches Fiend Village, where demons have kidnapped Princess Misa. He enters the Demon Realm through a sealed portal, battles the demon lord Shula, and rescues the princess by sealing the gateway behind him.
Goku's training journey brings him to Fiend Village, a settlement plagued by demons who slip through a portal sealed by a sword embedded in a door. Princess Misa has been kidnapped by one of these demons, and King Kress, the local ruler, initially doubts that a child can help. After witnessing Goku's fighting skills against his own knights, the king recruits him for the mission.
The portal is sealed by Shula's Sword, which Goku cannot pull free. Instead, he passes through the gate into the Demon Realm itself. Inside, he meets two demon guards, Gola and Melee, who warn him about Shula, the powerful demon lord who intends to marry Princess Misa. Goku crashes the wedding ceremony's tournament, defeating the first demon challenger and shocking the gathered audience.
Shula enters the fight personally, exchanging blows with Goku in an intense battle. Just as Goku prepares a Kamehameha, Melee throws a kunai to create a distraction. The Kamehameha's flash blinds the demons, giving Goku the opening he needs. He grabs Princess Misa, and with the help of Melee and Gola, escapes through the portal. Goku pulls Shula's Sword from the door and drives it back in, sealing the gateway and trapping the demons inside. The village celebrates the princess's safe return.
Goku entering the Demon Realm alone, with no allies and no plan beyond "fight the strongest one," is pure Goku. His fearlessness in the face of literal demons reinforces the idea that his courage comes not from ignorance but from absolute confidence in his own abilities.
The unlikely alliance with Gola and Melee adds dimension to the Demon Realm. Not all demons support Shula's ambitions, and their willingness to help Goku escape suggests a more complex society than the simple "evil realm" the villagers fear.
Meanwhile, the brief scene at Kame House showing Yamcha and Krillin training by delivering milk and dodging dinosaurs is a fun callback to Goku's own training under Roshi. The parallel between Goku's real-world adventures and his friends' structured training highlights the different paths to strength.
This episode marks the first appearance of the Demon Realm in the Dragon Ball franchise. The concept will not resurface prominently until the Babidi Saga in Dragon Ball Z, where the connection between demons and the mortal world becomes central to the plot.
This is an anime-original episode. The mention of "Enma-sama" and "Kami-sama" by the demon guard Melee in the Japanese version represents the first reference to these important figures, who will not appear on screen until much later in the series.
