Wrapped in Defeat

After a long incantation from Fortuneteller Baba, a sarcophagus rises from the depths, and Bandages the Mummy awakens. This is Baba's third fighter, a warrior renowned for never losing a single match. The arena is the Devil's Toilet, where deadly acid waits below the fighting platform to punish any misstep.

Yamcha steps forward with confidence, believing his speed will carry the day. He is wrong. Bandages the Mummy moves with terrifying quickness, running circles around Yamcha and landing devastating blows. Even the Wolf Fang Fist fails to make an impact. Yamcha manages to trip Bandages near the edge, but the mummy launches his own bandages like a grappling line and swings safely back onto the platform.

The beating intensifies until Bandages ensnares Yamcha in the Stretching Bridge Technique, bending his spine to the breaking point. Puar transforms into a woodpecker and pecks at the mummy until Yamcha is freed, but the damage is done. Yamcha is hurled toward the acid below, and only Goku's quick thinking, extending his Power Pole to catch Yamcha mid-fall, prevents a fatal outcome. With Yamcha saved but disqualified, all hopes now rest on Goku as he steps onto the platform to face the undefeated mummy.

Pride Before the Fall

Yamcha's refusal to surrender, even when his body is being broken, reveals the depth of his warrior's pride. Master Roshi's observation that Yamcha fights for himself and his honor rather than for anyone else is a defining character moment.

Upa's attempt to intervene with an axe is a small but emotional beat. The boy feels responsible for dragging Yamcha into this fight, and watching him helplessly reach for a weapon underscores the personal stakes driving this tournament.

Goku's Power Pole rescue is perfectly timed and visually striking. The extending staff reaching down into the acid-filled pit to catch a falling friend is one of the saga's most memorable images, demonstrating that Goku's loyalty is as formidable as his strength.

The Undefeated Mummy

Bandages the Mummy is the first of Baba's warriors who poses a genuine physical threat. Unlike Fangs or See-Through, who relied on gimmicks, Bandages combines raw speed, overwhelming power, and a finishing technique that targets the spine.

This episode marks the first time the Devil's Toilet arena is used for combat, raising the danger level significantly. The acid below transforms every knockback into a potential death sentence, adding lethal consequences to an already brutal fight.
