The battle for the last Dragon Ball begins as Goku's team faces Baba's five fighters. Krillin falls to Fangs the Vampire, Upa and Puar rally for a creative win, and Yamcha meets an invisible foe.
Fortuneteller Baba lays out the rules: fighters lose by falling into the lake surrounding the stage or by giving up. The stakes are the location of the final Dragon Ball, and Baba's five warriors stand between Goku's team and their prize.
Krillin steps up first against Fangs the Vampire, a muay thai practitioner with a deadly bite. After underestimating his opponent, Krillin finds himself outpaced by Fangs in bat form. The vampire latches onto Krillin's head and drains his blood, leaving him weakened and unable to defend against a barrage of strikes that knock him off the stage.
With Krillin out, the group devises an unorthodox plan: Upa and Puar will fight together. Baba allows it due to their size and age. Despite having no real combat training, the duo unleashes a series of anti-vampire tactics. Upa breathes garlic in Fangs' face while standing in the shape of a cross, and Puar transforms into a hedgehog to deflect bites. When Fangs tries to escape, Puar shifts into a giant hand and slaps the vampire straight into the lake.
Yamcha takes the stage next, only to discover his opponent is already there: See-Through the Invisible Man. Yamcha swings at nothing but air as his unseen foe lands blow after blow. Krillin hatches a plan and sends Goku to retrieve Master Roshi and Bulma.
Krillin's defeat sets the tone for the tournament, proving that Baba's fighters are no pushovers. Fangs' ability to transform into a bat and drain blood makes him a genuinely threatening opponent, and watching Krillin weaken from blood loss is unsettling for a series often rooted in lighthearted adventure.
The Upa and Puar tag-team is pure creativity. Neither has any business in a fighting tournament, yet their unorthodox approach, exploiting classic vampire weaknesses, turns the battle into one of the saga's most entertaining sequences. The image of Puar as a giant hand slapping a vampire into a lake is unforgettable.
Yamcha's frustration at fighting an invisible opponent is palpable. Every punch misses, every kick finds empty air, and the audience can feel his mounting desperation as See-Through pummels him without being seen.
This episode introduces Fangs the Vampire and See-Through the Invisible Man, two of Baba's five fighters. Both represent the saga's shift toward eccentric, ability-based combat rather than straightforward martial arts contests.
The Upa and Puar fight demonstrates that cleverness can triumph over raw power, a recurring theme in early Dragon Ball. Their use of garlic, crosses, and shapeshifting to counter a vampire draws directly from classic monster folklore.
