The Cell Games begin with Mr. Satan's dramatic entrance and his students' quick defeats. After Mr. Satan himself is swatted aside by Cell with a single casual blow, Goku steps into the ring as the first real challenger, and the true battle begins.
The Cell Games arena is surrounded by cameras, journalists, and spectators as the event takes on the atmosphere of a global sporting spectacle. Mr. Satan arrives in grand fashion, flexing for the cameras and delivering bombastic speeches about how he will crush Cell with his bare hands. The crowd, desperate for hope, cheers wildly for their champion.
Mr. Satan's students, Caroni and Pirozhki, volunteer to fight first. Caroni, a flamboyant swordsman, and Pirozhki, a massive wrestler, both approach the ring with misplaced confidence. Cell dispatches them without moving from his position, flicking them aside like minor annoyances. Their defeats happen so quickly that even the television commentators struggle to process what they witnessed.
Mr. Satan, now out of excuses, enters the ring himself. He performs an impressive display of tile-breaking to psych himself up, then charges at Cell with everything he has. Cell responds with a single backhanded slap that sends Mr. Satan sailing out of the ring and into a nearby mountain. Remarkably, Cell does not bother to kill him, finding the champion too insignificant to warrant lethal force.
While the world's cameras fixate on Mr. Satan's theatrical entrance, the actual powerhouses arrive without fanfare. Vegeta, Android 16, Goku, Gohan, Piccolo, Krillin, Tien, and Yamcha all gather near the arena, their presence barely registered by the media covering the event. The disconnect between public perception and reality is deliberate and almost comedic.
King Furry, watching the broadcast from his palace, recognizes Goku and Piccolo from the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament years ago. His reaction suggests he understands, perhaps alone among the world's leaders, that the real battle is about to begin with fighters the public has never heard of.
After Mr. Satan's embarrassing ejection, Cell calls for a worthy opponent. Without hesitation, Goku steps forward. The moment he enters the ring and faces Cell directly, the atmosphere shifts completely. Gone is the circus-like energy of Mr. Satan's performance. In its place is the quiet tension of two supremely powerful beings preparing for genuine combat.
For the television audience, Goku is a nobody. For Cell, he is the opponent who matters most. The contrast between these two perceptions sets the stage perfectly for what is about to unfold.
