Ten Years of Change

An entire decade has passed since the defeat of Majin Buu, and the world has changed considerably. Gohan has pursued his scholarly ambitions, Trunks and Goten have grown into teenagers, and Vegeta and Bulma now have a young daughter named Bulla. Goku, ever the dedicated fighter, has been training with Goten in relative seclusion when Bulma and Vegeta arrive for the first time in five years. Learning that Goku and Goten plan to compete in the upcoming World Martial Arts Tournament, Vegeta immediately signs himself and Trunks up as well.

The day of the tournament brings a massive reunion. Old allies gather in the stands, catching up on lost time. Gohan, now married to Videl, has opted not to fight, but their four-year-old daughter Pan has entered the adult division. Mr. Satan and Good Buu round out the roster of familiar faces among the competitors.

A Fighter Worth Watching

Goku drops a bombshell on Vegeta: somewhere in the tournament bracket is a completely human fighter with the potential to challenge both of them. Intrigued, Goku asks Buu to use his magic to rig the seeding so that he faces this mystery opponent early. Pan opens the tournament in spectacular fashion, effortlessly defeating the much larger Wild Tiger in her first adult-division match to the delight of the crowd.

The Reincarnation of Evil

Goku's opponent turns out to be a timid ten-year-old boy named Uub, the human reincarnation of Kid Buu. King Yemma honored Goku's silent wish before Buu's destruction, sending the villain's soul back as a good person. Uub possesses enormous latent power but is clearly nervous and unsure of himself. Goku, recognizing that the boy needs motivation, resorts to taunting and provoking him. After a particularly sharp insult and a kick to the face, something snaps inside Uub, and his dormant fighting spirit roars to life.
