Oars

Towering at more than four times the bulk of a typical giant, this red-skinned, skull-faced corpse was so vast that Zoro and Franky first took his body for a wall. Two great horns crown his head, with long yellow hair spilling down his back, squared upper teeth above pointed lower fangs, and a missing right eye. The marking SZ-900 is inked on his left arm, naming him as Special Zombie number 900.

Stitches run across him as with any of Moria's zombies, broken only by a rotted patch near his right shoulder that bares ribs. Hogback grafted on an entirely new right arm, since the original joint had been ruined by frostbite. A blue curtain sewn over his belly hides a hollow cockpit where his guts should sit, a chamber Moria can climb into to watch the fight or feed Oars his shadow powers. Beyond bandaging, he wears only a huge black loincloth decorated with three skulls and a cross.

Hogback paints the living Oars as a savage from an exceptionally wicked clan of giants, famous and feared in his day, yet also remarkably thick: Chopper deduced that he met his end not in battle but by wandering a freezing waste in nothing but a loincloth. Reanimation with Luffy's shadow handed Oars a borrowed personality, including Luffy's burning wish to be the Pirate King, his bottomless love of meat, and his easy excitability.

That inheritance also bred Luffy-shaped blind spots. Oars could not see through Usopp and Sogeking being one person, yet instantly matched Sanji to a clumsily drawn wanted poster. He kept faint memories of rubber abilities too, finding it strange that his arm refused to stretch and later sensing that stretching felt oddly familiar. Toward Moria he was at first fiercely defiant, clinging to his own will, but the curse of every zombie eventually bent him into obedience. Even then he insisted on fighting his own battles and resented his master interrupting them.

Roughly five hundred years before the present, Oars carved out a so-called nation of villains by conquering countries and hauling islands under his banner, then perished in the Land of Ice. He left descendants, among them Little Oars Jr., and his dread reputation outlived him by centuries, recognized on sight by senior Marines and remembered in the lore of Elbaph. Twelve years before the story, Moria and Hogback recovered the frozen body and spent years restoring it, swapping the damaged arm and fitting the stomach cockpit, while the corpse waited in a freezer for a suitable shadow.

Four days after the final night raid, Moria implanted Luffy's shadow and woke the giant, who promptly shattered his chains and bellowed for food. Dismissing the role of a Warlord's pawn, he punched out of the freezer and declared himself the future Pirate King. He soon discovered Thriller Bark was a ship, mistook rubble for a pirate hat, and idly hauled the rudder chain, swatting aside the General Zombies who tried to stop him. Once Moria fully claimed him, Oars smashed through the mansion and confronted the Straw Hats, trading the crew's combined assaults for moves lifted from Luffy's arsenal, from Gomu Gomu no Pistol and Gatling to his own Gomu Gomu no Shirimochi butt slam.

His enormous strength let him uproot towers, flatten buildings, and shrug off blows, and as a zombie he felt no pain and seemed to never tire, though he still flinched on instinct until he grasped his own immunity. With Moria piloting from inside and using Kage Kakumei, Oars gained the ability to stretch like Luffy and even ball his body up for Oars Ball, yet he never gained rubber's resilience and remained vulnerable to blunt force and lightning. The crew gradually wore him down by toppling, freezing, and chaining him, until Nightmare Luffy battered him and a coordinated strike straightened and snapped his spine. Luffy finished it with Gomu Gomu no Gigant Bazooka, and Moria soon pulled Luffy's shadow back out, leaving the corpse lifeless once more.
