Every time he surpassed Goku through sheer willpower and training, Goku would find yet another level and leave him behind once more.

The cycle played out through the Namek Saga, the Cell Games, and the battle with Majin Buu. Vegeta questions whether destiny itself has condemned him to always be the runner-up. It is a rare, vulnerable moment for the Saiyan Prince, laid bare without battle to distract him.
