Dr. Gero reaches his lab and activates Androids 17 and 18, but they immediately rebel against their creator. Android 17 destroys the control remote and kills Dr. Gero, then the trio awakens Android 16 and sets out to find Goku.
Dr. Gero arrives at his hidden laboratory with Krillin close behind, but the Z Fighters are simply too late. By the time Vegeta, Trunks, Piccolo, and Tien break through the reinforced lab doors, the doctor has already activated Androids 17 and 18. The twin androids appear calm and obedient at first, responding to Gero's commands with apparent compliance. They stand motionless, eyes forward, every movement carefully measured and controlled. But it quickly becomes clear that their obedience is nothing more than a calculated performance designed to lower their creator's guard and ensure he does not reach for the shutdown remote.
Android 17, the dark-haired young man, moves first. He snatches the emergency shutdown remote from Dr. Gero's trembling hands and crushes it in his fist, eliminating any possibility of being deactivated ever again. The doctor protests in horror, realizing too late that he has lost all control over his own creations. The machines he designed to be the ultimate weapons now answer to no one. 17 is utterly unmoved by the pleas. With cold efficiency, the android severs Gero's head from his body and crushes it underfoot, killing the very creator who gave him life. Android 18 then turns her attention to a sealed pod in the corner containing Android 16, a fully mechanical model that Gero had deemed a failed experiment and strictly forbidden them from ever activating under any circumstances.
Despite Gero's warnings from beyond the grave, Android 18 opens the pod and awakens Android 16. The massive, red-haired android emerges quietly, displaying none of the hostility the fighters expected. Future Trunks, panicked by the appearance of an android he has never encountered before, fires a Buster Cannon that levels the entire laboratory. When the smoke clears, all three androids stand unharmed amidst the rubble, 16's pod having shielded him during the blast.
The fighters brace themselves for a confrontation, but the androids show no interest in fighting them. Their sole stated objective is to find and kill Son Goku, following their original programming.
As the three androids prepare to leave, Vegeta refuses to let them walk away unchallenged. He steps forward and demands a fight, his Saiyan pride unable to accept being ignored. Android 16 declines, stating that he was not designed to fight anyone other than Goku. Instead, Android 18 volunteers to face Vegeta, accepting his challenge with a calm confidence that unsettles the other fighters.
The stage is set for a showdown between the Saiyan prince and the deceptively powerful android, while 17 and 16 stand by as spectators to the coming battle.
