Alone on the vanishing planet, Goku and Frieza continue their duel as Namek's final moments approach. Goku notices Frieza's power rapidly draining due to the strain of maintaining full output. Choosing to walk away from the weakened tyrant, Goku is caught off guard when Frieza launches his Death Saucers in a last act of defiance.
On Earth, the evacuated fighters and Namekians take stock of their situation. Grand Elder Guru explains to everyone what transpired, while the group processes the reality that Goku chose to remain behind on a planet that is actively tearing itself apart. Concern for his safety weighs heavily on all of them.
Back on Namek, the battle between Goku and Frieza rages on through the planet's death throes. Islands sink, oceans boil, and lightning tears across a sky choked with volcanic ash. Neither fighter seems capable of landing a decisive blow, creating the impression that Namek's destruction might claim them both before either one falls.
Goku makes a critical observation. Frieza's attacks are growing slower and weaker with each exchange. Maintaining 100% power output is destroying the tyrant's body from within, draining his stamina at an alarming rate. The longer the fight continues, the wider the gap between them grows. Satisfied that he has proven his superiority, Goku decides to end the battle by simply leaving.
Frieza cannot accept being dismissed. The idea that a Saiyan would show him mercy and walk away is more humiliating than any physical defeat. In a final act of desperate fury, he generates a pair of Death Saucers, razor-sharp discs of energy that track their target relentlessly, and hurls them at Goku's retreating back.
Goku's combat awareness saves him as he dodges the pursuing discs. The chase becomes Frieza's undoing. Unable to control his own weapons with his depleted energy, the tyrant fails to avoid one of the returning Death Saucers. The disc slices through Frieza's own body, cutting him in half and leaving him broken on the shattered ground.
There is a powerful irony in Frieza being defeated by his own weapon. Earlier in the saga, Frieza boasted that he would rather die by his own hand than lose to a Saiyan. The Death Saucer incident fulfills that statement in the cruelest possible way, turning the tyrant's arrogance into the instrument of his destruction.
Goku's decision to spare Frieza and walk away is equally significant. It demonstrates that becoming a Super Saiyan did not erase his fundamental compassion, even toward the being who murdered his best friend. The choice defines who Goku is as a warrior and a person.
