Gohan begins training with his little brother Goten and is stunned to discover the boy can already transform into a Super Saiyan despite never learning to fly. Videl arrives at the Son household, ready to collect on Gohan's promise to teach her flight.
With the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament on the horizon, Gohan spreads the word among his friends and manages to persuade a reluctant Chi-Chi to let him compete. He takes a leave of absence from Orange Star High School and heads home to begin preparing. His training partner is his younger brother Goten, and their first sparring session delivers a revelation that catches Gohan completely off guard.
Goten, despite being only seven years old, possesses remarkable fighting instincts and physical strength that far exceed what Gohan expected. The real shock comes when Goten casually transforms into a Super Saiyan during their sparring match. Gohan is floored. Achieving Super Saiyan status took him years of intense emotional and physical strain, yet Goten accomplished it almost as an afterthought. The boy treats the golden transformation as naturally as breathing.
There is one notable gap in Goten's abilities, however. He has never learned to fly. This contrast between extraordinary power and missing fundamentals highlights how unconventionally Goten has developed as a fighter, growing up without formal training or battlefield pressure.
True to her word, Videl arrives at the Son family home to hold Gohan to his promise of teaching her how to fly. Her determination is immediately apparent, though the concept of manipulating ki energy is entirely foreign to her. As the daughter of Mr. Satan, who dismisses all energy-based techniques as tricks, Videl has never been exposed to the fundamentals that the Z Fighters take for granted.
Gohan's transition from warrior to teacher provides a lighthearted shift in tone. His patient explanations about channeling inner energy contrast with Videl's fiery impatience, establishing a dynamic between the two that carries both comedic and romantic undertones as they grow more comfortable around each other.
Goten's ability to become a Super Saiyan at such a young age is a significant narrative detail. It reinforces the concept that half-Saiyan children carry enormous latent potential, an idea first explored through Gohan during the Cell Saga. The ease with which Goten and later Trunks access this power suggests that each successive generation of Saiyan hybrids may surpass the last without the trauma that historically triggered the transformation.
The episode also serves a structural purpose, gathering characters and establishing training arcs that will converge at the tournament grounds in the episodes ahead.
