A Friend Beneath the Sand

Gohan awakens to discover his tail is gone and he is wearing a brand-new outfit courtesy of Piccolo. Disoriented, he is chased by a pack of wild animals until he stumbles into a hole in the desert floor and falls into ancient underground ruins. There, half-buried in sand, sits a probe robot designated C-6, dormant for eighty years after an earthquake sealed the cavern during an excavation mission.

A Short-Lived Bond

Gohan reactivates C-6, who initially tells the boy not to disturb it. But when Gohan breaks down crying, the old machine reluctantly agrees to watch over him. Gohan tries to dig C-6 free while the robot recounts its long imprisonment. Their companionship is brief; the unstable cavern begins to crumble, and C-6 uses its remaining power to launch Gohan back to the surface. The robot is crushed in the collapse. Standing alone in the desert with tears streaming down his face, Gohan processes the loss and walks away, a little more hardened than before.

Meanwhile, on Snake Way

Goku continues his long trek along Snake Way, growing so hungry that he stops to eat clouds from the Other World atmosphere, desperate for anything to fill his stomach.

Moments That Matter

C-6's sacrifice is Gohan's first experience with permanent loss on his own terms. Unlike his father's death, which happened while Gohan was unconscious, this one unfolds right in front of him. The robot gives its existence to save a child it barely knows, mirroring the selfless heroism that defines the people Gohan will grow up to fight alongside.

Growing Through Grief

Gohan's reaction to C-6's destruction marks a turning point. Instead of collapsing into helpless tears as he has done before, he grieves and then moves forward. The desert has begun teaching him what Piccolo intended: that survival requires resilience, and loss does not have to mean defeat.

Lessons Underground

This filler episode earns its place by advancing Gohan's emotional growth. The boy who cried for his parents at every turn now mourns a friend and walks on alone. C-6 may be a minor character, but its sacrifice plants the seeds of courage that Gohan will carry into battles far more dangerous than a collapsing cave.
