King Kai reveals the violent history of the Saiyan race to Goku, while the Z Fighters complete their training on the Lookout and Fortuneteller Baba sees no future for Earth.
With Bubbles caught, King Kai presents Goku with his next challenge: strike Gregory, a lightning-fast grasshopper, over the head with a massive weighted hammer. The task proves far more difficult than catching Bubbles, as Gregory darts through the air with incredible speed.
During a break for food, King Kai shares the dark history of the Saiyan race. He tells Goku how the Saiyans annihilated the Tuffles, the only other humanoid species on Planet Vegeta, and then rose to become interstellar conquerors who cleared entire worlds for resale to other races. Their empire ended when Planet Vegeta was destroyed, leaving only four survivors. Learning of his people's brutal past fills Goku with a focused intensity, and he rockets toward Gregory with renewed determination.
On the Lookout, Krillin, Tien, Yamcha, Chiaotzu, and Yajirobe complete their training under Kami, all having surpassed the Guardian's own power level. They decide to continue training independently on Earth. Two weeks later, Goku finally hits Gregory. At Kame House, Fortuneteller Baba peers into her crystal ball at Master Roshi's request and discovers a chilling truth: Earth has no future. The Saiyans are one day away.
King Kai recounts how the Saiyans destroyed the Tuffles and became planet-clearing mercenaries before their homeworld was annihilated, leaving only four survivors. This revelation gives Goku insight into the enemies he will soon face.
The Z Fighters on the Lookout finish their year of training and disperse to continue honing their skills on their own. Goku finally manages to hit Gregory with the mallet, unlocking the next phase of his training: the Kaio-ken technique. The episode closes on a haunting note as Fortuneteller Baba declares that the planet has no future.
This episode bridges the training arc and the Saiyan battle by bringing all preparation to its conclusion. The anime-exclusive history of the Saiyan-Tuffle war provides crucial worldbuilding, while Fortuneteller Baba's ominous vision sets the tone for the conflict about to unfold.
