The Zamasu Crisis

Gowasu plays a central role in the Future Trunks Saga as Zamasu's mentor and the unwitting catalyst for one of the series' darkest storylines. He selected Zamasu as his apprentice and successor, believing the young Kai's talent and dedication made him an ideal candidate for the position of Supreme Kai. However, Gowasu failed to recognize the depth of Zamasu's growing hatred for mortals until it was far too late.

In the original timeline, Zamasu murders Gowasu to steal his Potara earrings and Time Ring, using these divine tools to carry out his Zero Mortals Plan. In the altered timeline that the main characters inhabit, Goku, Beerus, and Whis arrive in time to prevent the assassination. Beerus destroys the present-era Zamasu before he can act, though the Future Zamasu from Trunks' timeline remains a threat.

Gowasu is characterized by his patience and his fondness for tea. He maintains a GodTube channel and uses it to observe mortal civilizations, reflecting a genuinely curious nature. His trusting disposition, while admirable, is ultimately what allowed Zamasu's treachery to develop unchecked.
