Mighty Blast of Rage

Frieza, now held together only by the energy Goku gave him, rises and mockingly asks what he should do with the gift. Goku tells him to leave and spend the rest of his days reflecting on the humiliation of his defeat. On Earth, the mood is bittersweet. Grand Elder Guru gathers the Namekians and announces that his time has finally come, this time from genuine old age rather than grief. He passes the custodianship of the Namekian Dragon Balls to Moori, the second eldest, ensuring the wish-granting tradition will continue.

The Namekians realize with anger that no one from Elder Tsuno's village was revived, because those Namekians were killed by Vegeta, not Frieza or his soldiers. Guru bids his children a gentle farewell and fades away. Gohan, Dende, and Piccolo pay their respects, and Dende offers a ray of hope: Krillin can be brought back with the Namekian Dragon Balls since Porunga can revive someone more than once, as long as the death was not from natural causes. The same will apply to Chiaotzu.

On the disintegrating surface of Namek, Frieza taunts the departing Goku one last time, sneering that the planet's explosion will claim the Saiyan while he himself survives. Goku ignores him and begins searching for a way off the planet. But Frieza's mind floods with memories of every humiliation Goku dealt him: their first encounter, the transformation, the utter dominance of Super Saiyan power. His fury overrides his shattered body, and he channels every remaining scrap of energy into one treacherous beam aimed at Goku's back. Goku senses it at the last instant. Done showing mercy, he fires his own blast in return. The two beams collide, and Goku's energy tears through Frieza's effortlessly, apparently vaporizing the tyrant. The battle for Namek is finally over.

Frieza's decision to attack Goku with the very energy given to save his life is the ultimate expression of the character's nature. He cannot accept kindness because kindness, in his worldview, is weakness. Being spared by a Saiyan is worse than death. So he converts Goku's compassion into a weapon, which is entirely in character for someone who has never known gratitude or humility.

Goku's response is equally telling. He does not hesitate. The man who walked away from a beaten opponent moments earlier now fires without remorse. It is not rage that drives the final blast but cold finality. Goku gave Frieza every chance, and Frieza chose to squander them all. There is grief in Goku's expression afterward. He takes no joy in what he had to do, but he accepts it completely.

Guru's death scene is one of the more quietly powerful moments in the Frieza Saga. Unlike his first death, driven by the anguish of losing his children, this one is peaceful. He has lived long enough to see his people saved and to entrust the Dragon Balls to a worthy successor. Moori's appointment as the new Grand Elder will prove significant in later arcs, as he becomes the steward of Namekian culture for decades to come.

The penultimate act of this episode is essentially a clip show, as Frieza replays key moments from his battle with Goku in rapid succession. While some fans view this as padding, it serves a narrative purpose: it lets the audience relive the saga's highlights through the eyes of the villain, recontextualizing each moment as a wound to Frieza's pride rather than a triumph for Goku.
