Super Buu unleashes a devastating homing attack that wipes out nearly every human on Earth. Piccolo and Videl convince him to wait one hour for Gotenks to prepare, but Buu's impatience and Chi-Chi's death push everyone to the edge.
Piccolo's strategy to buy time collapses almost immediately when Super Buu launches a terrifying homing attack. Thousands of thin energy blasts scatter across the entire planet, each one seeking out and killing a human target. Within moments, nearly every person on Earth is dead. Only Mr. Satan, Tien, and Chiaotzu survive the onslaught, each protected by circumstances unique to them.
With his leverage gone, Piccolo shifts tactics. Alongside Videl, he appeals to Super Buu's desire for a worthy opponent, convincing him that waiting one hour will produce a fighter actually capable of giving him a real challenge. Buu, intrigued by the promise of entertainment, reluctantly agrees. Meanwhile, on the Sacred World of the Kai, Gohan grows restless waiting for Old Kai's power-up ritual to complete. When he discovers that his strength has indeed increased dramatically, he agrees to be patient and see the process through.
The hour proves unbearable for everyone. When Chi-Chi confronts Super Buu and slaps him for killing her sons' friends, Buu kills her instantly. Goten, barely containing his fury, joins Trunks in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. With only thirty minutes elapsed, Buu's patience runs thin, and Piccolo begins the slow walk toward the Chamber, stretching every second he can.
The mass extinction scene is one of the most harrowing moments in Dragon Ball Z Kai. The attack is not a single explosive blast but a precise, methodical elimination, each beam finding its target no matter where they hide. The sheer scale of death elevates the stakes beyond anything a single villain battle could achieve. Super Buu does not destroy a city or a region; he removes an entire species from existence in seconds.
Chi-Chi's death, while brief, carries significant emotional weight. Her defiance in the face of an invincible monster captures her character perfectly, and Goten's struggle to contain his grief rather than throw away their only chance at victory shows remarkable maturity for his age.
Piccolo's deliberately slow escort of Buu through the Lookout's corridors is a brilliant piece of tension building. Every additional second he stalls is another second of training for Goten and Trunks inside the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. His internal calculation is clear: if the boys fail, he can destroy the entrance and trap Buu in a dimension with nothing to destroy and no way out.
This contingency plan reveals how dire Piccolo considers the situation. He is prepared to condemn himself and the boys to eternal imprisonment if it means protecting whatever remains of the universe.
