Kōzō Shioya

Kōzō Shioya voiced the entire spectrum of Majin Buu's forms and personalities, from the innocent and playful Kid Buu to the malevolent Evil Buu and the majestically powerful Super Buu. His work spanned Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT, and Dragon Ball Super, establishing Buu as a vocal chameleon whose childlike pitch could suddenly shift to pure menace. Whether Buu was giggling at destruction or expressing genuine hurt at Vegeta's words, Shioya's performance made the alien entity feel disturbingly alive and psychologically complex. His portrayal extended across the major games and remasters, cementing Buu's place among the franchise's most vocally memorable characters.

Shioya boasted a remarkably extensive résumé spanning from the 1980s through the 2020s, with credits in One Piece, Digimon, Detective Conan, and countless other productions. His versatility allowed him to shift between supporting roles in obscure series and major character voices in flagship franchises. He passed away in January 2026, leaving behind decades of vocal performances that shaped multiple generations of anime.
