Kefla is the Potara fusion of Caulifla and Kale, two Universe 6 Saiyans who merged during the Tournament of Power. Combining Caulifla's fighting instinct with Kale's raw berserker strength, Kefla became one of the most formidable opponents Goku faced in the entire tournament.
The fusion of Caulifla and Kale was born out of desperation during the Tournament of Power. Both Saiyans had been struggling against Goku, who was steadily growing stronger through the course of the tournament. When it became clear that neither could defeat him individually, Champa's Universe 6 team provided them with Potara earrings, and the resulting fusion was Kefla.
The combined warrior immediately demonstrated power that exceeded what either component fighter could achieve alone by a massive margin. In her base form, Kefla was already strong enough to give Goku significant trouble. When she transformed into a Super Saiyan, her power output increased to the point where even Super Saiyan Blue Goku found himself on the defensive. Her energy blasts were powerful enough to reshape the tournament arena, and her speed allowed her to keep pace with fighters far more experienced than either of her component selves.
Kefla's personality blended Caulifla's brash confidence with Kale's underlying emotional intensity. She was aggressive, taunting, and utterly convinced of her own superiority. This overconfidence ultimately contributed to her downfall, as she underestimated the depths of Goku's abilities.
Goku's battle with Kefla served as a critical stepping stone in his mastery of Ultra Instinct. Pushed to his limits by her relentless attacks, Goku reactivated the Ultra Instinct Sign form that had first appeared during his fight with Jiren. In this state, his body moved independently of conscious thought, allowing him to dodge Kefla's strikes while charging a Kamehameha at point-blank range. The resulting blast eliminated Kefla from the tournament stage and defused her back into Caulifla and Kale.
Despite her relatively brief appearance, Kefla left a significant impression on the Dragon Ball Super narrative. She demonstrated that Universe 6's Saiyans possessed untapped potential comparable to or exceeding that of Universe 7's fighters, and she provided the catalyst for one of Goku's most important transformative moments. Her power at Super Saiyan 2 was explicitly noted to rival or exceed that of the Spirit Bomb Goku had used against Jiren, placing her among the strongest fighters in the tournament.
Kefla also holds a unique position as one of the very few female fusion characters in Dragon Ball and one of an even smaller number to serve as a serious combat threat rather than a comedic one. Her popularity among fans has led to her inclusion in numerous Dragon Ball video games, often as a featured playable character.
