A Prodigy's Training

Aboard his ship, the newly revived Frieza reacquaints himself with Sorbet and Tagoma. When Sorbet mentions plans to revive King Cold, Frieza dismisses the idea, calling his father too full of himself. Learning that Goku has since defeated Majin Buu, Frieza calculates that four months of dedicated training will be enough to surpass the Saiyans. He has never trained a day in his life; every ounce of his previous power was natural talent. Tagoma cautiously suggests avoiding Earth entirely, and Frieza responds by riddling him with Death Beams as a lesson in insubordination.

Progress on Beerus's Planet

Meanwhile, Goku and Vegeta spar under Whis's supervision. The angel instructs them to contain their ki within their bodies so opponents cannot sense their energy, a refinement of the godly ki concept. During their session, Beerus wanders outside, sneezes after smelling a butterfly, and accidentally destroys a nearby moon with the resulting blast. The gap between the Saiyans and their host remains staggering.

The Warning

Four months later, Jaco the Galactic Patrolman arrives at Capsule Corporation with urgent news: Frieza is heading to Earth with a thousand soldiers. Bulma tries to reach Whis by messaging him a picture of a strawberry sundae, but the bait goes unanswered. She pivots to assembling whatever fighters are available. Krillin receives the call mid-patrol, retrieves his gi and Senzu Beans, and joins Gohan, Piccolo, Tien, and Master Roshi. They converge just as Frieza's armada blots out the sky over North City.

The Frieza Force's Desperation

Frieza's decision to train is one of the saga's most compelling reveals. His power on Namek was entirely innate; he never once needed to work for it. The implication that even a few months of effort could vault him past warriors who have trained their entire lives speaks to both his terrifying genetic ceiling and the complacency that defined his reign.

Earth Without Its Champions

The episode highlights the strategic cost of Goku and Vegeta's absence. Bulma's failed attempt to contact Whis demonstrates that there is no reliable emergency line between Earth and Beerus's planet. The defenders who do assemble are vastly outgunned, setting up the desperate holding action that dominates the next several episodes.

A Four-Month Time Skip

Episode 20 condenses Frieza's training arc into a brief montage and time skip, keeping the focus on the invasion's arrival rather than the preparation. Jaco's debut in the anime proper introduces a character from Akira Toriyama's spinoff manga who becomes a recurring presence throughout Dragon Ball Super. His blend of cowardice and duty adds a comedic counterweight to the increasingly serious stakes.
