Vegeta's Respect

EpisodeEp. 280

As Goku battles Kid Buu at Super Saiyan 3, Vegeta watches from the sidelines and undergoes a profound internal transformation. Through flashbacks spanning their entire rivalry, Vegeta finally acknowledges what he has long denied: Goku is the superior fighter, driven not by pride or bloodlust, but by a pure love of the fight.

War Before an Audience of Ghosts

Super Saiyan 3 Goku and Kid Buu wage their titanic battle while the entire universe watches. On Grand Kai's Planet, the fighters of the afterlife follow every blow. Down in Hell, Frieza, Cell, and the rest of Goku's former enemies observe through a giant Crystal Ball. Babidi, still furious at Buu's betrayal, openly roots for Goku to finish the job.

The fight rages without pause, but Goku's energy is draining rapidly. He fires a devastating Super Kamehameha, but Kid Buu regenerates from the assault. Pushed to his limit, Goku nearly collapses and reverts from Super Saiyan 3. Vegeta rushes in, offering to take over, and Goku reluctantly steps aside.

The Prince Takes the Field

Vegeta faces Kid Buu head on, destroying a swarm of miniature Buu clones with a powerful Explosive Wave. But when the real Kid Buu reforms, Vegeta's attacks prove entirely ineffective. He cannot land a single meaningful blow, and Buu batters him without mercy. Just as Kid Buu prepares to finish Vegeta with a Shocking Ball, Goku intervenes and resumes the fight as a Super Saiyan 3.

Vegeta retreats to the sidelines once more, now serving as a witness to a battle far beyond his reach. The spectacle forces him to confront something he has spent years avoiding.

A Confession Written in Starlight

Watching Goku fight, Vegeta's mind drifts through their shared history. He remembers their first clash on Earth, the humiliation of watching Goku achieve Super Saiyan on Namek, and the endless cycle of training only to be surpassed again. He once believed that Goku's bonds with family and friends gave him an edge, but gaining a family of his own brought Vegeta no closer to victory.

At last, Vegeta strips away his pride and admits the truth. Goku fights for the sheer joy of it, to push himself further without malice or desire for revenge. That purity of purpose is what separates them. In a moment of genuine humility, Vegeta declares Goku the best, casting his full confidence behind the warrior who fights not to kill, but to grow.
