Goku lands a Bending Kamehameha on King Piccolo and presses the advantage until Piccolo cripples his leg. After losing his Power Pole, Goku endures the Explosive Demon Wave that levels all of Central City. Tien saves Goku from the blast at the last second.
Goku erupts from the ground and fires a Kamehameha at King Piccolo, but instead of a direct hit, he bends the wave around and strikes the demon king square in the back. The two warriors clash in a brutal exchange of blows, with Goku landing devastating combinations that stagger Piccolo repeatedly. News of the fight spreads across the globe, reaching Kame House and even a hospital where Suno and Android 8 are watching.
King Piccolo manages to disable Goku's right leg with a precision energy blast, but Goku refuses to go down. Using the Power Pole as a crutch, he delivers a powerful strike to Piccolo's chin. The demon king retaliates with a barrage of beams that eventually knocks the Power Pole from Goku's grip, and then fires his Explosive Demon Wave. The blast annihilates the entire kingdom and Central City with it. King Furry barely escapes by boarding a plane before the explosion consumes everything. Tien Shinhan uses the last of his energy to carry Goku above the blast radius, saving his life. Though weakened, Goku prevents Piccolo from firing another wave and survives a follow-up attack by summoning the Flying Nimbus.
The Bending Kamehameha is a creative technique that catches Piccolo completely off guard. Goku's ability to guide his energy around an opponent demonstrates a level of ki control that goes far beyond brute force. The destruction of Central City marks the single most devastating attack in the original Dragon Ball series.
Despite being battered and exhausted from his earlier fight with Drum and the failed Evil Containment Wave, Tien Shinhan musters enough strength to fly Goku out of danger. This selfless act keeps Goku alive for the final confrontation, even as Tien collapses from the effort.
The Explosive Demon Wave wiping out Central City represents the highest level of destruction seen in Dragon Ball up to this point. Goku's refusal to quit despite losing the use of his leg and his primary weapon shows the tenacity that defines him. Piccolo's willingness to obliterate an entire city to kill one opponent reveals the true depth of his ruthlessness.
