Meanwhile, Krillin and Dende arrive at Guru's towering home, where the Namekian warrior Nail stands guard. Krillin notes with surprise that Nail looks almost exactly like Piccolo. Nail welcomes them warmly and reveals that Guru has been expecting their arrival all along.

Zarbon's transformation is a masterful piece of character design. His obsession with his own appearance makes the monstrous form genuinely horrifying, not just to the audience but to Zarbon himself. He loathes this state. The fact that he would rather risk losing than reveal his true power speaks volumes about how deeply his vanity runs. When he finally transforms, the brutality feels personal, as if he is punishing Vegeta for making him ugly.

The one-sided beating also serves the Saiyan biology plot device. Vegeta's near-death experience here is not just dramatic; it is functional. During their flight to Guru's home, Dende explains to Krillin why Namek has no nighttime: the planet orbits multiple suns. This detail enriches the alien world and explains the perpetually green-lit skies that define the saga's visual identity. In the manga, this information is delivered by the narrator, but the anime wisely turns it into natural dialogue between the two travelers.

The episode's cliffhanger, with Vegeta's hand lunging from the water to grab a passing bird, is a perfectly crafted horror beat. It confirms what seasoned viewers suspected: Vegeta survived. His battered declaration that he will have his revenge and collect the Dragon Balls transforms what could have been a defeat into a promise. For the Saiyan prince, near-death is just another step toward power.
