Zarbon reveals his terrifying hidden form, a grotesque reptilian beast that savagely beats Vegeta into submission. After pile-driving the Saiyan prince into a crater that floods with water, Zarbon leaves him for dead. Krillin and Dende finally reach Guru's home.
After losing the opening exchange, Zarbon remains calm. He warns Vegeta that he has been holding back his true strength, though he would prefer not to reveal it. Zarbon explains that beauty is only skin deep and that Vegeta has only seen the beautiful side of him so far. Despite his personal distaste for the process, Zarbon transforms. His elegant features contort into a hulking, reptilian form covered in scales, with bulging muscles and a demonic face. Vegeta is genuinely shocked.
The transformed Zarbon launches a ferocious assault. He knees Vegeta in the stomach, kicks him skyward, grabs him by the leg, and slams him into the ground. Then comes the brutal signature of the fight: Zarbon hoists Vegeta up and headbutts him repeatedly, over and over, with no mercy. The elegant warrior is gone, replaced by a savage brawler who thrashes Vegeta like a ragdoll, tossing him through mountains and battering him with relentless combinations of punches and kicks. Vegeta cannot land a single meaningful counter.
After choking Vegeta and slapping him around by the hair, Zarbon finishes the job with a devastating aerial pile-driver, grabbing the prince headfirst and drilling him into the ground at terminal velocity. The crater immediately fills with water. Zarbon, reverting to his normal form and smoothing his hair, assumes Vegeta will drown if the beating did not already kill him. He departs to report his victory to Frieza, commenting that Vegeta brought this on himself by forcing the transformation.
Meanwhile, Krillin and Dende arrive at Guru's towering home, where the Namekian warrior Nail stands guard. Krillin notes with surprise that Nail looks almost exactly like Piccolo. Nail welcomes them warmly and reveals that Guru has been expecting their arrival all along.
Zarbon's transformation is a masterful piece of character design. His obsession with his own appearance makes the monstrous form genuinely horrifying, not just to the audience but to Zarbon himself. He loathes this state. The fact that he would rather risk losing than reveal his true power speaks volumes about how deeply his vanity runs. When he finally transforms, the brutality feels personal, as if he is punishing Vegeta for making him ugly.
The one-sided beating also serves the Saiyan biology plot device. Vegeta's near-death experience here is not just dramatic; it is functional. Every bone-crushing blow is quietly building toward the massive power increase that will define his next encounter with Zarbon. The audience watching him get destroyed is actually watching him get stronger.
During their flight to Guru's home, Dende explains to Krillin why Namek has no nighttime: the planet orbits multiple suns. This detail enriches the alien world and explains the perpetually green-lit skies that define the saga's visual identity. In the manga, this information is delivered by the narrator, but the anime wisely turns it into natural dialogue between the two travelers.
The episode's cliffhanger, with Vegeta's hand lunging from the water to grab a passing bird, is a perfectly crafted horror beat. It confirms what seasoned viewers suspected: Vegeta survived. His battered declaration that he will have his revenge and collect the Dragon Balls transforms what could have been a defeat into a promise. For the Saiyan prince, near-death is just another step toward power.
