Through King Kai's telepathic link, Goku fills his fallen friends in on the situation on Namek. He mentions warriors in Saiyan-style armor who are even more dangerous than Vegeta. King Kai uses his antennae to scan the planet and confirms the terrible truth: the leader of these forces is Frieza. The revelation visibly shakes King Kai. He pleads with Goku to avoid Frieza at all costs, calling him the most powerful being in the universe, a threat not just to individuals but to all life everywhere.

Piccolo seizes control of the conversation. He places his hand on King Kai's shoulder and tells Goku to ignore the warning, collect the Dragon Balls, and wish them back to life. Piccolo reasons that together, he, Goku, Gohan, and Krillin can handle whatever they face. King Kai protests, but Piccolo deflects with a promise not to fight Frieza, one he privately has no intention of keeping. Tien shares Piccolo's determination, silently resolving to train harder than ever. King Kai relents and agrees to begin their training, starting with the traditional first test: making him laugh.

On Namek, Krillin and Dende fly toward Guru's house while Vegeta prowls the skies hunting for the last Dragon Ball. Vegeta detects two energy signatures that do not belong to Frieza's forces, but before he can investigate, he senses a much larger power: Zarbon, who is searching for Namekian villages on Frieza's orders. Vegeta changes course, confident that Zarbon will be easy prey without his master nearby. The two warriors collide in midair, and Vegeta taunts Zarbon with news of Dodoria's death. Zarbon dismisses Vegeta's boasts and warns him that no amount of improvement will close the gap between him and Frieza. Vegeta phases behind Zarbon, catches his punch, and tosses him skyward. He deflects Zarbon's Elegant Blaster with one hand. The opening exchange goes decisively in Vegeta's favor, leaving Zarbon stunned at how much the Saiyan has improved.

King Kai's terror at hearing Frieza's name is the most effective piece of world-building in the Namek Saga to this point. King Kai has trained Goku. He knows firsthand what Saiyan power looks like. And yet the mere mention of Frieza reduces him to a trembling wreck. This single reaction communicates the scale of the threat more effectively than any power level reading ever could.

Piccolo's refusal to accept King Kai's warning establishes the dynamic that will drive the rest of the saga. The warriors are fully aware they may be outmatched, but passivity is not an option when their friends are in danger. Piccolo's lie to King Kai is perhaps the most honest thing he does: he will absolutely fight Frieza, and no amount of cosmic authority will convince him otherwise.

The joke-telling sequence on King Kai's planet is entirely anime-original and provides welcome comic relief. Tien's struggle to deliver a pun is a rare moment of vulnerability for the stoic warrior. In the English dub, his eventual joke is the classic "You can tune a piano, but you can't tune a fish." The original Japanese version uses a different pun about noses, and multiple international dubs each crafted their own localized wordplay.

Piccolo's impatience with these antics is perfectly in character. He catches Bubbles effortlessly, calls it "monkey business" (which, naturally, makes King Kai howl with laughter), and demands real training. His frustration foreshadows a key tension: Piccolo knows time is running out, even if nobody else treats the situation with the same urgency.
