A Promise Remembered

The second quarterfinal opens with Goku facing a furious young woman who registered under the name "Anonymous." She charges before the announcer can finish his introduction, throwing kicks and chops that Goku dodges with ease. She insists they have met before and accuses him of forgetting a promise he made to her. Nobody in the audience, not Goku, not his friends, can figure out who she is. Master Roshi notes that her fighting style resembles the Turtle School, and Oolong quietly pieces together her identity before anyone else.

When Goku asks what he promised, the woman shouts that he promised to make her his bride, stunning every person in attendance. Goku must ask Krillin what "bride" means. To settle things, the woman agrees to reveal her identity if Goku defeats her. He throws a single punch so fast it creates a shockwave that sends her flying out of the ring. She reveals herself as Chi-Chi, the Ox-King's daughter, and Goku finally remembers their childhood meeting. Despite having thought "bride" was a type of food when he made the promise, Goku honors his word and proposes. Chi-Chi accepts, and the crowd erupts in celebration. With the engagement settled, Krillin steps into the ring against Ma Junior, launching an impressive Double Tsuibikidan and demonstrating his newly learned ability to fly.

Love and War in the Same Ring

Chi-Chi's furious entrance sets the tone as she attacks before the match is even called. The reveal that Goku promised to marry her shocks everyone, especially when Goku has to ask what marriage means. Oolong is the only one who figures out her identity early but keeps it to himself. Goku's air-pressure punch is so powerful it catches even Ma Junior's attention. The proposal and acceptance create a unique moment in World Tournament history. The mood shifts dramatically when Krillin faces Ma Junior, demonstrating Flight for the first time and surprising Piccolo with guided energy attacks and afterimage strikes.

Two Battles, One Turning Point

This episode packs two major developments into one: Goku's engagement to Chi-Chi and the beginning of Krillin's doomed match against Piccolo. The English dub changes Goku's reason for honoring the promise, adding a line about his heart knowing what his mouth was saying. Krillin revealing he can fly catches everyone off guard, and Ma Junior's subtle power-ups hint at the terrifying strength he has been concealing throughout the tournament.
